Description
Kabaji, known as Cabaji the Acrobat, serves as the chief of staff and a key combatant for the Buggy Pirates. Hailing from the East Blue, he is first encountered during the crew's occupation of Orange Town. His appearance is distinctive, marked by a tall, slender build and a unique hairstyle where long hair covers half of his face, shaved in a parallel pattern on the other side. He typically conceals the lower part of his face with a large checkered scarf and wears a sleeveless coat and loose-fitting pants, a look that contributes to his mysterious and elegant demeanor. His appearance is further tied to his fighting style, as he is rarely seen without his signature unicycle and sword.

Kabaji carries himself with a serious and composed air, priding himself on a sense of elegance even in combat. This cool exterior, however, belies a pragmatic and deeply cunning nature. He is a fighter who believes in exploiting any advantage, showing no hesitation in targeting an opponent's existing wounds or using dirty tricks to secure victory. His loyalty is reserved for his captain, Buggy, for whom he has shown genuine sadness when believing Buggy was dead and great joy upon his return. Outside of this loyalty, his concern for others is minimal. He holds a constant rivalry with fellow crewmate Mohji, each vying for status as the best in the crew. Furthermore, he has no regard for Mohji's pet lion, Richie, once using the animal as a literal shield to avoid getting dirty from an explosion.

As the chief of staff, Kabaji's primary role is as a fighter and a close aide to his captain. He serves as the tertiary antagonist of the Orange Town Arc, where he is pitted against the swordsman Roronoa Zoro. His motivation in this confrontation is to defeat the Straw Hat Pirates, who have interfered with his crew's operations. Following his defeat, he harbors a lasting grudge against the Straw Hats and continues to follow Buggy, motivated by a mix of loyalty and the desire for revenge. He later appears in the Loguetown Arc as a minor antagonist, still in pursuit of the Straw Hats, and continues to serve as a member of Buggy's crew throughout the story's major conflicts.

Throughout the series, Kabaji's path remains closely tied to the fortunes of his captain. After being soundly defeated by Zoro, who used his Oni Giri technique, Kabaji was forced to flee during the crew's encounter with the Marines at Loguetown. During the Impel Down and Marineford arcs, he was among the crew members who mourned Buggy's reported death and later celebrated his dramatic return. Years later, his loyalty is tested when he becomes a member of the Cross Guild, an organization led by Buggy, Crocodile, and Dracule Mihawk. In this new context, his self-preservation instinct seems to have grown, as he and his crewmates nonchalantly accepted following Crocodile when their own captain was threatened.

Kabaji's notability stems from his unique and varied combat style, which he calls Carnival Tricks. This style is a blend of swordsmanship and acrobatics, primarily performed while riding a unicycle. His abilities include breathing fire high into the air, unleashing a barrage of razor-sharp spinning tops, and swallowing swords with ease. He also demonstrates significant physical strength, capable of lifting the large lion Richie with one arm. While a capable and tricky fighter who can use a blade with proficiency, his dishonorable tactics ultimately proved insufficient against the skill and spirit of Zoro, who dismissed him as a fellow swordsman of a completely different caliber.
