ONA
Description
Purin is a young Jigglypuff and the central character of the anime short Jigglypuff's Song, known in Japanese as Purin no Uta. The short traces its struggle with deep insecurity about its singing voice and its gradual journey toward sharing that voice with others.
Purin is first seen crying alone in a park, where a girl named Momo discovers it. Its distress comes from an earlier wound: when other Jigglypuff heard it sing, they reacted with surprise to its unusually low voice. That reaction left it ashamed and convinced that its voice was wrong, so it stopped singing altogether. Momo reaches out and befriends it, and the two grow close.
In personality, Purin is shy, sensitive, and easily discouraged. It avoids singing and feels uncomfortable when exposed to more polished singers, but it is also deeply caring and loyal. Its bond with Momo is strong enough that the idea of being misunderstood by her, or of causing her sadness, pushes it past its fear.
Its central motivation is acceptance: it wants its voice to be valued, and it wants to express its feelings for Momo through song. The turning point comes when Momo introduces it to a friend, Anzu, who also owns a Jigglypuff. When Anzu's Jigglypuff performs a skillful song, Purin becomes withdrawn and refuses to sing. Anzu misreads this and remarks that Purin must not like Momo, since it will not sing for her. Seeing Momo cry at this comment, Purin finally sings on the spot, revealing its true voice. Momo's sincere praise that the song is wonderful gives Purin the confidence it lacked, and it performs with joyful enthusiasm, pouring its affection for Momo into the music.
From that point, Purin sings every day. The closing narration shows it performing regularly for Momo and those around her, and even Anzu, who was initially bewildered, becomes a fan of its singing. Purin's development is from a withdrawn, self-doubting singer into a confident and happy one whose voice becomes a daily gift to the people who matter to it.
Its notable ability is its distinctive singing voice, which is unusually low compared with other Jigglypuff and carries a sleep-inducing quality. As the short notes, its song has the power to make listeners fall asleep, a trait that does not stop it from singing happily day after day. This same voice, once a source of shame, becomes the means by which Purin connects with Momo and finds its place.
