Kunus, also called Cunus or Knuth, is a Deathdrive general in Brave Bang Bravern. He appears as one of three hostile super robots that attack in the eighth episode, alongside Vanitas and Pessimism. The Deathdrives are alien invaders who rely on human pilots or organic batteries to operate. Lewis Smith, a human soldier leading the Brave Knights, confronts Kunus directly. In the ensuing battle, Lewis sacrifices himself and succeeds in destroying Kunus, dying as a result. After their mutual destruction, the ghosts of Lewis and Kunus meet. Lewis refuses to accept defeat and merges his spirit with his Titanostrider mecha and the remains of Kunus. Kunus’s inherent power causes this fusion to send Lewis back through time, arriving at the moment just before the Deathdrive invasion began. This time travel leads to Lewis being reborn as Bravern, the very robot that defends Earth. Beyond his role as an enemy combatant, Kunus’s most notable ability is a form of temporal manipulation, which indirectly enables the creation of Bravern and the alteration of the timeline. Little is shown of his personality or deeper motivations beyond serving the Deathdrive invasion force.
