Description
Popalchipum, also romanized as Paupertipum, is one of the Deathdrives generals appearing in the final episode of the anime Brave Bang Bravern!. The Deathdrives are alien super robots who invade Earth, and each of them acts according to a singular obsession while seeking what they consider to be the finest possible death. Popalchipum is associated with the concept of humble or impoverished appetite, and his defining trait is an insatiable hunger. His background as a Deathdrives general places him among the upper ranks of the invasion force, and like his kind, he operates on a scale far beyond ordinary machine combat.

His primary motivation is to consume until he is truly satisfied, an experience that has always escaped him. The scale of his appetite is cosmic: even a supernova explosion was not enough to fill him. In the story, he joins the final confrontation as part of the Deathdrives' last stand against the human forces and their allies, though his appearance is brief and limited to the closing battle. His role is significant mainly because of how his story ends. During the climax, the allied side unleashes the Bang Brave Big Bang, and a star moved by that attack pours out a vast amount of magma. Popalchipum consumes the magma until he is finally and completely full. That long-sought fullness causes him to burst, and the resulting eruption gives him the splendid death he had been chasing, an end described as the ultimate and supreme mantle spreading through his entire being.

In personality, Popalchipum is defined by single-minded gluttony. He is less concerned with conquest or ideology than with feeding, and his contentment at the moment of his destruction suggests that he cared chiefly about achieving his personal goal rather than defeating his enemies. As a Deathdrives general, he possesses the formidable power common to his kind, including the durable barrier that makes conventional weapons ineffective against them, and his hunger operates on an astronomical scale that sets him apart even among the other generals. His relationships are primarily with his fellow Deathdrives, including figures such as Superbia, Cupiridas, Knuth, Vanitas, Pessimism, Segnitis, Ira, and Verum Vita, and he stands in opposition to the heroes Bravern and Isami Ao during the final battle. Because he appears only near the end of the series, his development is limited, but his arc is complete: he begins as an unsatisfied devourer who has never known fullness, and he ends by experiencing exactly the satiation he craved, dying content on his own terms.
