Description
Kim Chul-Min is a central character in the story, serving as a senior detective at the Namil police station. His background is intrinsically linked to the protagonist, Jeong Su-In, whom he first encountered when she was a child. At that time, a young Su-In bravely called the police to report her abusive father, and Chul-Min was the officer who responded to the call, rescuing her from that traumatic situation. This event forged a deep, lasting bond between them, with Su-In coming to regard him as a father figure, the closest thing to a responsible parent she has ever had.

Personality-wise, Chul-Min is defined by his deep-seated empathy and strong moral compass. He is portrayed as an honest and righteous police officer whose compassion, first shown to a frightened child, continues to guide his actions. This empathy allows him to resonate with the sufferings of others, but it is also paired with a detective's instinct and a strategic mind. He is described as a formidable strategist, demonstrating a level-headed and protective nature, especially when it comes to Su-In.

His primary motivation throughout the narrative is the protection of Jeong Su-In. When the parasitic alien species begins to spread and a specialized task force, Team Grey, arrives to exterminate them, Chul-Min finds himself in a difficult position. He grows suspicious that Su-In has been infected after witnessing her miraculously heal from fatal wounds. However, he refuses to believe she is a monster. Based on his years of knowing her as an emotional and troubled young woman, he cannot reconcile her with the parasites he has learned about. His core motivation becomes to shield her from Team Grey, whom he fears will experiment on and torture her as a specimen, and from the other parasites who are hunting her.

In the story, Chul-Min acts as a crucial protector and moral anchor. He serves as a bridge between Su-In and the official investigation, initially keeping his suspicions about her from Team Grey to buy her time. He secretly meets with her to understand her condition and later forms an uneasy alliance with the minor criminal Seol Kang-Woo to rescue her after she is captured. His role in the plot is to provide Su-In with a reason to fight for her humanity and to represent the idea that morality can exist even in a war without clear good or evil.

His key relationships are few but deeply significant. His bond with Su-In is the emotional core of his character. He also has a professional relationship with his junior detective, Kang Won-Seok, whom he works with closely and trusts, unaware that Won-Seok is a traitor collaborating with the parasites. When this betrayal is revealed by Kang-Woo, it sets the stage for the final act of his story.

Chul-Min undergoes a tragic but complete character arc. He transitions from a supportive father figure to an active conspirator against the very task force he is meant to assist. His development culminates in self-sacrifice. In his attempt to rescue Su-In, he confronts the traitor Won-Seok and the leader of the parasites, known as the Pastor. After fatally shooting the Pastor's human host, the parasite within detaches itself and decapitates Chul-Min, killing him instantly and assuming his identity. His death serves as a major turning point, becoming the driving force that pushes Su-In to stop running and fight the parasitic threat herself.

Regarding notable abilities, Kim Chul-Min is a skilled and experienced detective, relying on his intellect, strategic planning, and proficiency with a firearm. He possesses no supernatural powers, standing as a determined but purely human character in a conflict against alien beings. His greatest strengths are his investigative skills, his moral conviction, and his willingness to risk his life for someone he loves.
