Description
Banri Niwa is a third-year high school student and a member of Group K. He is the childhood friend and neighbor of Kei Shinomiya, who regards him as an older brother figure. Their relationship is built on a deep foundation of mutual trust. Banri is known for his pragmatic and introspective personality. He lives by a personal set of life principles which he refers to as his "bible," with one known tenet being that the experience of losing transforms into a great asset. True to this philosophy, he is a character of quiet restraint, prioritizing measured actions over verbose commentary and speaking and appearing the least during the games.
Banri’s primary motivation stems from his role as a mentor and guide to Kei. During their middle school years, he chided Kei for labeling others as idiots too quickly, noting that this habit created unnecessary enemies. Banri advised him to hold back and observe others closely to become even stronger, teaching him to discern true allies from adversaries. He was skeptical of the existence of a "real idiot," but told Kei that if he ever faced one, he should crush them with all his strength. This guidance had a significant effect on Kei, helping him to "behave a bit" after that incident. Banri also recommended that Kei attend his high school, stating that while it might not be at his level, it contained interesting people. Both of them, along with other Group K members, later joined the school's basketball club.
Within the story of the Tomodachi Game, Banri plays a subtle yet pivotal role. During the third game, Friendship Hide-And-Seek, he partnered strategically with Kei to secure a hiding place for another ally, Juuzou Kadokura, while their teammates surveilled rival players. Although he operates with quiet restraint, allies like Juuzou recognize his keen intellect and consider him "witty". Banri’s abilities lie more in his strategic insights and his capacity to shape group dynamics from a less conspicuous position, contributing effectively to his team's efforts without seeking the spotlight.
