Description
Amaru is a human character who appears in the 2023 film Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. He is the leader of a highland tribe in Peru, specifically in the Andes Mountains, and is a descendant of a long line of people who have secretly protected the Maximals, a faction of heroic Transformers with beast-like alternate modes, on their land for centuries. His role is that of a guardian of ancient secrets, entrusted with the safety of his people's powerful mechanical allies.

In terms of personality, Amaru is portrayed as a dignified and wise elder who embodies a deep respect for tradition and the ancient covenant between his tribe and the Maximals. This is most notably demonstrated when Optimus Primal, the leader of the Maximals, arrives at his village. Amaru greets him warmly in the Southern Quechua language, calling him my old friend and expressing happiness at his return, showing a profound and personal bond that transcends their different species. His demeanor is calm and respectful, reflecting a leader who is both a custodian of a critical secret and a gracious host to those his people have protected for generations.

Amaru's primary motivation is the fulfillment of his ancestral duty. His tribe has kept one half of the Transwarp Key safe for centuries, a vital artifact that the villainous Terrorcons and their master Unicron seek to use to conquer the universe. His role in the story is therefore crucial, as he is the one who provides the Autobots and Maximals access to this half of the Key. He also offers assistance by lending Energon, a source of fuel for Transformers, which is used to help heal the injured Autobot Bumblebee. Later, he is present as an observer, witnessing the terrifying approach of Unicron as the villain attempts to breach a portal to Earth.

Key relationships define his character. The most significant is his bond with Optimus Primal. Their exchange in Quechua establishes them as old friends or brothers, indicating a history of cooperation and mutual respect that has lasted for many years. He is also the patriarch of his family in the village, with his son, wife, grandchildren, and other relatives appearing alongside him, showing that his role as chief and guardian is both a public and a familial responsibility.

Amaru does not undergo a significant personal development arc within the film, as he appears as a supporting figure to facilitate the main characters journey. His importance is static and foundational; he represents the enduring human connection to the Transformers conflict on Earth. His most notable abilities are not physical or combative but are rooted in his cultural heritage and knowledge. He is a fluent speaker of Quechua, an indigenous language of the Andes, and his authority as chief allows him to grant the Autobots access to the sacred site where the Transwarp Key is hidden, directly enabling the plot to move forward.
