Description
Lucas Huarancca is not an anime voice actor but a Peruvian live‑action film actor and retired educator. He is known for his role as Amaru in the 2023 live‑action film Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, a part of the Transformers franchise.
Prior to his appearance in this film, Huarancca worked as a teacher for more than three decades in the Cusco region of Peru, instructing students in art, music, and dance at institutions including the Corazón de Fátima school in Urcos. He retired from teaching at the age of 65. He is a native Quechua speaker who learned the language from a young age and has studied Peruvian indigenous traditions.
Huarancca was cast as Amaru in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts after a casting agent searching for Quechua speakers encountered him while he was traveling to a religious sanctuary. Upon being selected for the role, he filmed his scenes in Tarapoto, Peru, where he shared screen time with the film's lead actors and director. In the film, his character Amaru is a curaca, or community leader, who is a descendant of the Andes highlanders and has protected the Maximal Transformers on his land. In one scene, he speaks in Quechua with the character Optimus Primal. Following the film's release, he noted that many people, including his former students, began calling him by his character's name, Amaru. He has also made television appearances in Peru to discuss his experience.
