Description
Bui is a formidable demon and a former member of Team Toguro, playing a significant role during the Dark Tournament. His most striking feature is his immense, jagged, rock-like suit of armor, which includes a samurai-style helmet that completely conceals his face and distorts his voice. This armor is exceptionally heavy, to the point where simply dropping it can crack the stone floor of the tournament ring. Contrary to its protective appearance, the armor's primary function is to suppress Bui's enormous demon energy and restrain his physical strength, serving as a safeguard for his opponents rather than for himself. When he removes his armor as a sign of respect, Bui is revealed to be a well-built, handsome young adult with short, bluish-green hair. He bears a distinctive knuckle-shaped scar on his forehead, a mark given to him by the younger Toguro brother many years ago.

In terms of personality, Bui is calm, stoic, and remarkably peaceful. He rarely displays emotion and is almost never seen angry or sad. For most of the tournament, he does not speak at all, only being heard breathing heavily through his helmet. When he does finally speak, he is polite and speaks formally. Unlike his teammates Karasu and Elder Toguro, Bui has a personal code of honor and does not enjoy torturing opponents or reveling in their suffering. Instead, he prefers to end his battles as quickly and efficiently as possible, using his overwhelming power to achieve a swift victory and never resorting to dishonest means.

Bui's primary motivation stems from a past defeat. Long before the events of the Dark Tournament, both he and his teammate Karasu were defeated by the younger Toguro. This humiliating loss instilled in Bui a deep-seated hatred and a singular goal: to train relentlessly and eventually grow strong enough to exact revenge and kill Toguro. He joined Toguro's team under the premise of one day having a rematch, using the tournament itself as a form of intense training to achieve this ambition.

During the final match of the Dark Tournament, Bui steps into the ring to face Hiei. At first, he fights while wearing his armor, wielding a colossal battle axe made from solidified demon energy. When Hiei proves too skilled, easily shattering his axes, Bui admits he cannot win without using his full strength. He removes his armor, revealing his true power in the form of a green, flaming battle aura. This aura grants him the ability to fly and provides formidable offensive and defensive capabilities. In this state, he is powerful enough to catch and redirect Hiei's ultimate technique, the Dragon of the Darkness Flame, back at him. However, Hiei survives and consumes the dragon's flames, drastically increasing his own power. Bui is subsequently overwhelmed and defeated.

Bui's key relationships are defined by his shared history with the Toguro brothers and his dynamic with his teammate, Karasu. Both Bui and Karasu are bound by their equal hatred for younger Toguro and their desire for vengeance, yet their relationship remains detached and professional. They respect each other's strength, but when Karasu is killed by Kurama, Bui remains stoic and does not mourn him, understanding that Karasu would have reacted the same way had their positions been reversed.

After his defeat at Hiei's hands, Bui experiences a significant development. He comes to a crushing realization that no matter how much he trains, younger Toguro will always be overwhelmingly stronger, shattering his long-held ambition for revenge. Incapacitated and defeated, he asks Hiei to kill him. Hiei refuses, stating that no one gives him orders. This encounter leaves Bui alive but defeated, and he is last seen watching the final match between Yusuke and Toguro, having survived the tournament's destruction.

Bui possesses several notable abilities that make him a deadly opponent. His most famous technique is his battle aura, a green demon energy that he can use for both powerful offense and near-impenetrable defense, which he can only access after removing his armor. He also has superhuman strength and speed, even while wearing his restrictive armor. His primary weapon is a gigantic axe formed from his own demon energy, which can be summoned at will and is heavy enough to sink his feet into concrete. In the anime adaptation, Bui also demonstrates an exclusive technique called the Aura Battle Cross Attack, a powerful, cross-shaped energy blast that can home in on its target.
