Description
Mr. Bushido is the alias adopted by Graham Aker in the second season of the anime series Mobile Suit Gundam 00. He originally served as an ace pilot for the Union, flying a customized black Union Flag, and became obsessed with fighting the Gundams of Celestial Being. After a devastating one-on-one battle with Setsuna F. Seiei in the Gundam Exia, Graham was severely scarred and presumed dead. Four years later, he resurfaces under the name Mr. Bushido, wearing a samurai-style mask to conceal his facial wounds and refusing to heal them as a reminder of his defeat. He joins the Earth Sphere Federation's autonomous peacekeeping force A-Laws, operating with a special license for independent action. His personality is defined by an intense, almost fanatical passion for close-quarters mobile suit combat, particularly against Gundams, and he adheres to a personal code of honor that echoes the bushido tradition. His primary motivation is to settle his unresolved rivalry with Setsuna, seeking to prove his own worth through a decisive victory. In the story, Mr. Bushido serves as a major antagonist and the direct rival to Setsuna and Celestial Being, often intercepting their operations to force a duel. His key relationship is with Setsuna, whom he regards as both a nemesis and a source of purpose. He also interacts with his former friend and supporter Billy Katagiri, who helps maintain his mobile suits. Character development occurs when, after a final clash with the 00 Gundam, Mr. Bushido comes to a realization about his identity and chooses to discard the persona, reverting to Graham Aker. He later aids in the fight against the ELS during the events of the subsequent film. Notable abilities include prodigious piloting skill, a preference for transforming mobile suits such as the GNX-U02X Masurao and later the GNX-Y901TW Susanowo, and a signature high-speed melee technique known as the Graham Maneuver. His combat capabilities allow him to challenge Gundam Meisters despite not possessing Innovator abilities.
