Description
Fracture is a Decepticon bounty hunter who appears as a recurring antagonist in the animated series often referred to by fans as Transformers: Robots in Disguise (2015), which features Bumblebee as a central character. Hailing from the Aligned continuity family, Fracture is a Cybertronian whose initial vehicle mode is a Cybertronian motorcycle that levitates, though after becoming stranded on Earth, he later adopts an alternate mode as a standard wheeled Earth motorcycle.
In terms of personality, Fracture is defined by his unscrupulous and pragmatic approach to his work as a bounty hunter. Unlike his honorable rival Drift, who believes in fair combat, Fracture has no qualms about using cowardly, underhanded, or dirty tactics to capture his targets. He is smug, self-assured, and motivated almost entirely by monetary gain rather than ideological loyalty to the Decepticon cause. He takes a brutal and no-nonsense attitude toward his work, expressing a preference for old-fashioned violence over reliance on technology, though he readily uses any tool at his disposal. Overconfidence is a notable flaw, as it sometimes leaves him vulnerable to counterattacks.
Fracture's primary motivation is to collect bounties, and his major goal during his initial appearance on Earth is to capture Bumblebee. However, he also harbors a deep personal vendetta against Drift, a fellow bounty hunter who often competes for the same quarries. Fracture longs for the day he can finally eliminate Drift, viewing him as a nuisance who pollutes their profession with honorable motives.
Within the story, Fracture serves as a major antagonist and a direct threat to Bumblebee's team. He first arrives on Earth to claim the bounty on Bumblebee, leading him into direct conflict with both the Autobots and Drift. He proves to be a formidable foe, successfully ambushing the Autobots, invading their base, and capturing several members of Bumblebee's team, including Strongarm and Grimlock. He also demonstrates his cunning by using micro-drones to spy on his enemies and setting elaborate traps. After being defeated and having his ship stolen by the Autobots, Fracture becomes stranded on Earth and subsequently joins the Decepticon outlaw gang led by Steeljaw, continuing to serve as a recurring antagonist.
Fracture's key relationships are defined by rivalry and alliance. His most significant dynamic is with Drift, whom he views as a rival to be eliminated, and the two clash multiple times. While their philosophies clash, Fracture is consistently portrayed as Drift's equal or even superior in pure combat skill, having driven Drift into a corner on several occasions. After joining Steeljaw's pack, Fracture serves as a lieutenant of sorts, although he can be skeptical of the group's plans, such as when he doubted the trustworthiness of another Decepticon, Clampdown. He is rarely seen without his two loyal Mini-Con partners, Airazor and Divebomb, who are typically carried on his shoulders and can transform into missiles to serve as his primary weapons.
Throughout the series, Fracture does not undergo a significant moral transformation. He remains a self-serving bounty hunter, and his development is more about his shifting circumstances. He arrives as a confident, independent operator with his own ship and resources. Following his defeat and the loss of his vessel, he is forced to ally with Steeljaw's pack, becoming a subordinate in a larger criminal organization. His later attempt to infiltrate the Autobot base to kidnap Fixit is cut short by the arrival of Optimus Prime, leading to his defeat and imprisonment. He does not reappear in later seasons, suggesting he remains incarcerated.
Fracture possesses several notable abilities. His primary alternate mode is a motorcycle, which provides him with speed and agility. In combat, he relies heavily on his two Mini-Con partners, Airazor and Divebomb. These partners detach from his shoulders and transform into guided missiles that he can launch at opponents to create distractions or deal damage. He also carries a weapon, often described as a gun or blaster, which he is not averse to using as a blunt-force instrument in close quarters. His strategic mind and willingness to use any means necessary, including hostage-taking and ambushes, are among his most dangerous assets.
