Description
Berserker is a Decepticon who appears as a minor antagonist in the 2017 film Transformers: The Last Knight. He is considered one of the most dangerously psychotic members of the Decepticon faction, with a level of uncontrollable violence that makes him a threat to allies and enemies alike. His background, as detailed in Transformers Reaction Force files, includes being responsible for the disappearance and murder of several people in a small Michigan town. He was eventually discovered by a family of farmers who reported seeing a metal creature near their fields. A team led by Commander Santos and Colonel William Lennox tracked Berserker to a cave where they found numerous corpses of both humans and Autobots, all of which had been drained of their bodily fluids. This gruesome discovery led to his capture and transfer to a maximum security facility where he remained in TRF custody.
The personality of Berserker is defined by an unrelenting and irrepressible lust for violence. Described as a seething ball of destructive energy, he tears apart anyone or anything that gets in his way. His homicidal nature is so extreme that even Megatron, the leader of the Decepticons, acknowledges that requesting his release would be asking for too much. This dangerous mentality has forced his human captors to restrain him with plates across his body to limit his movement. He constantly struggles against these restraints while spitting out graphic threats, which only leads to stronger restraints being applied, creating a continuous cycle of anger and further restriction. When a TRF soldier once removed his face mask, Berserker immediately responded with a violent threat about wanting to suck brains, demonstrating his savage and unpredictable nature.
In the story, Berserker plays a limited but significant role as a prisoner whose potential release is considered during negotiations between the TRF and Megatron. Megatron specifically requests that Berserker be among the Decepticons released from custody to join his crew, but the TRF firmly declines, stating that Berserker is far too dangerous to be set free and that Megatron knows this request is unreasonable. Megatron ultimately settles for the release of Onslaught instead, leaving Berserker in captivity. His key relationship with Megatron is therefore defined by this dynamic where the Decepticon leader recognizes Berserker as a potentially valuable asset but understands that even he cannot control or justify unleashing such an uncontrollable force. His relationship with the TRF is one of complete containment, as they maintain his imprisonment with extreme precautions.
Regarding character development, Berserker exhibits no meaningful growth or change within the film. He remains a static figure defined entirely by his imprisonment and his reputation for extreme violence. His fate after the events of the film is never shown or explicitly stated, leaving it unclear whether he was destroyed along with other imprisoned Decepticons or possibly freed by other Decepticon forces.
Berserker possesses several notable abilities consistent with Cybertronian physiology. Like all Transformers, he has the ability to transform into an alternate mode, which in his case is a black Chevrolet Suburban, a vehicle commonly associated with government agencies. His most significant characteristic is his extreme violent behavior and impulsive aggression, which reaches psychopathic levels and serves as a warning to anyone who might consider releasing him. His body has been fitted with pressure plates and restraints by the TRF to prevent him from moving or harming anyone, though he remains capable of violently shaking against these bindings. His method of attack, as evidenced by the victims found in his cave hideout, involves draining the bodily fluids from both humans and Autobots, suggesting a particularly gruesome combat style. His design visually reflects his savage nature with a beastly, hunched appearance featuring dreadlocks and a face mask, bearing resemblance to the Dreads from the earlier film Dark of the Moon.
