Live action TV
Description
Daytrader is an Autobot who operates as a junk trader, merchant, and mechanic within the live-action film continuity. His background revolves around serving as a supplier to the Autobots hiding in Cade Yeager's scrapyard, spending his time scouring Transformer battlefields for usable salvage to trade. He made his way into the scrapyard after being let in by a human named Jimmy in exchange for an alien gun.
In terms of personality, Daytrader is the kind of individual found in hardscrabble, survival-based economies. He is far more interested in peddling his diverse array of scavenged wares than engaging in any hardcore fighting. Daytrader primarily looks out for himself and tends to lurk on the periphery of conflicts, a habit that, combined with the dubious nature of his merchandise, irritates his fellow Autobots to no end.
His primary motivation is self-preservation and commerce rather than combat. He arrives at the scrapyard with various bits of scrap, including the head of the Decepticon Starscream and a functional voicebox for Bumblebee. However, he seems keen to make his trades and leave quickly, partly to get away before the Autobots realize that the new voicebox will give Bumblebee a voice very much not his own. When he notices the talisman in Cade's jeep, he believes it to be a replica, noting that the appearance of the real deal would be a sign that getting off-world as soon as possible would be the best course of action.
Daytrader's role in the story is that of a peripheral supplier. The Autobots express annoyance that he has yet to provide them with a ship to get them mobile and off-planet. Despite their frustration, he eventually makes good on his old promise. Shortly after the arrival of Cybertron in Earth's space, Daytrader delivers a ship to the Autobots at Cade's scrapyard, which brings them to Stonehenge for the final battle, though it is unclear if he accompanies them.
Regarding key relationships, Daytrader interacts primarily with the Autobot crew hiding at the scrapyard, including Hound, Drift, and Bumblebee. The exchange is often tense, with the Autobots expressing their irritation through pointed insults and carelessly thrown explosives, which Daytrader manages to dodge. One notable exchange includes him saying, "You always resort to violence," to which Hound replies, "I love violence".
As for development, there is an implication that Daytrader may be much more battle-worthy than he appears. It is suggested that he defeated legions of mercenaries, Steeljaws, and Stupid Drones previously staffing the Knight Ship, provided they were still aboard when he acquired the vessel for the Autobots. This hints at hidden capabilities beneath his merchant exterior.
Regarding notable abilities, Daytrader demonstrates skills in scavenging, trading, and mechanics, shown by his ability to locate specific functional parts like a voicebox for Bumblebee (even if the result is imperfect) and acquiring a ship for the Autobots. He also shows agility in dodging attacks from his fellow Autobots.
