Living in the hazardous Chicago quarantine zone, Canopy seeks only to provide a safe haven for Izabella and Sqweeks, avoiding conflict with the Transformers Reaction Force, the military organization dedicated to hunting down all Transformers regardless of faction. Unlike many Autobots who actively fight against the Decepticons, Canopy seems focused purely on sheltering his small family.

When a group of human children trespass into the Chicago ruins and are chased by the TRF, Izabella leads them to Canopy for shelter. However, once Canopy moves away from the children and urges them to follow him to safety, the TRF commander orders an airstrike. A missile from a jet strikes Canopy in the chest, mortally wounding him. In his final moments, Canopy implores Izabella to run and thanks her for her companionship before dying. His death serves as a catalyst for Izabella's subsequent alliance with the film's protagonist, Cade Yeager.

Regarding key relationships, Canopy's most important connection is with Izabella, whom he has raised and protected for years.
