Description
Anghalad, often called Anne for short, is a young girl from the remote town of Sistana whom Percival meets at the beginning of his journey. She is the daughter of a nobleman named Calden and aspires to become a Holy Knight, following in the footsteps of her late mother. Her initial encounter with Percival is adversarial, as she confronts him over a piece of the Coffin of Eternal Darkness, but she soon joins his group after realizing the sincerity of his character and the threat posed by the Holy Knight Ironside.

Anghalad possesses a naturally distrustful and cautious personality, a trait largely influenced by her unique magical ability. She is highly perceptive and can be confrontational, especially when she believes others are being dishonest or when she perceives herself as being underestimated because of her gender. Despite this guarded exterior, she is ambitious, determined, and has a strong sense of justice, which fuels her desire to become a capable Holy Knight so she can protect others rather than being protected herself. She is also shown to have a sense of humor and can be competitive with her companions, such as when she argues for her suitability as the group's leader.

Her primary motivation throughout the story is to grow stronger and gain experience as a warrior. She sees her journey with Percival and the others as the first real step toward achieving her goal of becoming a fine Holy Knight like her mother. While her initial goal is self-improvement, her loyalty to her friends deepens over time, and she becomes dedicated to helping Percival on his quest and protecting the group.

In the narrative, Anghalad serves as a founding member of the Percival Platoon, alongside Donny and Nasiens. She is often the voice of reason and skepticism within the group, using her abilities to assess the truthfulness of strangers and potential enemies. Her role in the story is solidified during the Sistana arc, where she fights alongside Percival against Ironside, and she continues to be a key combatant and strategist in subsequent confrontations, such as the battle against the Dark Talismans and the infiltration of Camelot. After proving their valor, she and her companions are officially appointed as Holy Knights of Liones.

Her key relationships are with the core members of the Percival Platoon. She is initially wary of Percival but comes to trust him completely because his intentions are always pure, a fact her magic confirms. She has a sibling-like rivalry with Donny, often bickering with him but relying on his abilities in a fight. She shares a cooperative and mutually respectful bond with Nasiens. She also has a tense but important relationship with the talking fox Sin, whose cryptic nature and occasional disappearances frustrate her, though she ultimately accepts him as part of the group. A significant event in her development involves the Holy Knight Ardbeg. Initially deceived by him, she later witnesses his sacrifice to save her, an act that deeply affects her and forces her to confront the complexities of people who harbor great hatred and sorrow.

Anghalad undergoes notable development from an untested girl with ambition to a more seasoned and confident warrior. Early on, she struggles with her lack of experience, which is made apparent during her first serious fight with Ironside. This humiliation reinforces her resolve to travel and improve. The trauma of Ardbeg's death, combined with her frustration over her own perceived helplessness, leads to a moment of emotional conflict within the group, which she overcomes with renewed determination to lead her friends forward. Her resolve and skills are continuously tested in battle, allowing her to grow into a reliable Holy Knight.

Anghalad is not physically the strongest member of the group, but she compensates with advanced speed, agility, and considerable skill with a rapier, which she cleverly conceals within a dotted umbrella. Her swordsmanship is precise enough to scratch powerful Holy Knights like Ironside and Elgin, earning their acknowledgment. Her most notable ability is her unnamed magical power, which allows her to see through lies and perceive a person's true intentions. This power is described by her late mother as a gift from God. It is also effective against visual illusions, allowing her to identify the real user among magical copies. Later in the story, after witnessing a traumatic event, her magic evolves to not only detect lies but also to inflict immobilizing pressure on those who answer her questions dishonestly, with the pressure increasing for every consecutive lie told.
