Description
Hagemaru Hageda is a ten-year-old male fourth-grade student standing roughly two feet tall. His most striking features are a completely bald head, prominent thick eyebrows, and black eyes. For school, he typically wears a pink shirt and green pants, but he also dons traditional Japanese kimonos or yukatas, along with various costumes like ninja, samurai, cowboy, or robot outfits. Newer versions show him in a yellow T-shirt marked with an "H".

He lives in Tokyo with his family, who face significant financial hardship. His father earns a low salary, partly attributed to habitual napping at work. This poverty shapes Hagemaru's intense focus on saving money, a trait pervasive throughout his family. They practice extreme cost-cutting measures, repurposing household items and minimizing all expenses, which unfortunately extends to providing insufficient care for their pet dog, Pesu.

Hagemaru possesses a generally warm but laid-back personality, often appearing unconcerned about most things. Though occasionally selfish, he demonstrates kindness by helping insects, plants, animals, and people. His obsession with saving and acquiring money frequently embarrasses his friends, yet he maintains close friendships with best friends Kondo Masaru and Bonshi (also called Yamada). Academically, he struggles, performing poorly in math, Japanese, and English. He is frequently late to school, irritating his teacher, Miss Sakura. Music is his sole academic strength.

He harbors unspoken romantic feelings for his classmate Midori, fearing rejection and never confessing, leading her to see him only as an eccentric friend. He also experiences unrequited interest in Kurumi (Nikori Yamada) but avoids pursuing her due to her relationship with Kondo. His pet dog, Pesu, frequently voices complaints about the family's stinginess, especially regarding food.

Beyond his original manga and anime appearances, Hagemaru features in the *Yo-kai Watch: Wibble Wobble* video game as a Rank B Yo-kai from the Charming tribe, with an alternate Rank A form. This spin-off reiterates his family's extreme money-saving habits ("Tsuruseko") and the neighborhood disruptions they cause. Concrete details regarding character development across seasons, movies, or other extended media remain undocumented.
