Description
Leland Tallman is an antagonist in the anime The Legendary Hero is Dead!. He was originally a royal physician, and his background as a medical professional masks a deeply disturbed obsession with bones. He serves as the director of an orphanage, a position that provides him with a facade of benevolence. In reality, he is a highly perverse and murderous individual who believes that the fleshy parts of the human body are worthless and that only skeletons are pure. He secretly murders innocent people over the course of years, killing them in order to turn their bodies into skeletons, driven by a twisted ideology that he is saving them by removing their flesh.

His personality is marked by a calm, gentle demeanor on the surface, often shown with a soft expression behind his glasses. Beneath this, he harbors a fanatically delusional and violent nature. His primary motivation is his obsession with bones, and he aspires to become a skeleton himself, believing he must first save everyone else by stripping away their flesh, even if it causes their death. In the story, Leland operates as a hidden threat, and his role is that of a villain whose true nature is gradually revealed. He is confronted and ultimately defeated at the Third Annual Mask Festival, where his crimes come to light.

Key relationships include his position as the head of the orphanage, where he initially appears kind and treats children equally, even extending apparent care to the necromancer Anri Haysworth. However, his interest in necromancers is driven by his fascination with their physical state rather than genuine kindness. Leland does not undergo significant positive development; his arc is that of a serial killer whose facade is stripped away, leading to his downfall. His notable abilities stem from his medical knowledge, which he uses to skillfully carry out his murders, and his ability to maintain a convincing public persona. No specific supernatural or combat abilities are prominent; his menace comes from his cunning and long-hidden depravity.
