Makaba is a member of the Seven Samurai, also known as the Goblin Knights, who joins Fena Houtman on her quest. He has a tall, muscular build, short black hair with buzzed sides, and black eyes. His samurai helmet is purplish-black, featuring a gray mustache design and a flowing mane similar to his comrade Tsubaki's.

Makaba is characterized as a gentle giant, showing kindness and mild-mannered behavior toward allies outside of combat. He typically remains quiet, observing his fellow samurai's emotions, but takes initiative during emergencies to act for them. He is famous for his enormous appetite.

In combat, Makaba relies solely on his physical strength, using brass knuckles integrated into his gloves. He is the only member of his group without conventional weapons, yet his brute force proves lethal against opponents.

Makaba demonstrates craftsmanship by making bows. Upon meeting Fena, he gifts her a large, color-changing bow that captivates her. He shares a lighthearted moment with Kaede and Enju during a kobiru-eating session, catching food tossed to him in the air, much to Tsubaki’s irritation.

The etymology of his name combines "ma" (真), meaning "real" or "genuine," and "kaba" (樺), meaning "birch" or "dark red".
