Description
Golem is a sophisticated automaton originally created by the enigmatic strategist Crimson. As one of Crimson's direct subordinates, alongside Chimera and Slime, Golem operates as a high-level agent capable of carrying out complex and independent missions. A defining characteristic of this entity is the ability to transfer its consciousness between different manufactured bodies, each designed for specific tasks such as infiltration, information gathering, or direct combat. This allows Golem to change appearance at will, seamlessly adapting to the needs of any situation.
In terms of personality, Golem is depicted as highly intelligent, logical, and pragmatic, yet also unpredictable, extravagant, and possessing a notably bad attitude. It refers to itself with a distinctive, informal pronoun, which reflects its self-assured nature. Golem has a tendency to act contrary to given orders, not out of mere rebellion, but as a deliberate test of its master's true intentions and competence. This behavior highlights a calculating mind that respects strength and foresight above blind obedience. Despite this calculating side, Golem also indulges in hedonistic pleasures when the opportunity arises, such as carousing in taverns and flirting with women while using a human disguise. The relationship with fellow subordinate Chimera is particularly notable, characterized by constant bickering and mutual provocation, which provides insight into their dynamics and shared origin.
Golem's role within the story is multifaceted. Initially, it is introduced while disguised as a vice-admiral, using a fly-shaped drone to gather intelligence on enemy movements. Later, Golem is deployed as a key combatant against powerful dragons, using a specialized battle body to engage in heavy firepower support. Its primary motivations are tied to its function as Crimson's creation, serving the goals of its master while also seeking to assess the worthiness of those it is ordered to assist, such as the protagonist Ragna. After observing Ragna's overwhelming power in battle, Golem acknowledges him as a peer in terms of raw fighting ability, referring to him as a monster akin to itself.
The character's development is closely linked to its adaptive nature. After suffering severe damage in a major battle, Golem reappears in a new, different humanoid body, demonstrating its resilience and the fact that as long as its consciousness survives, physical destruction is merely an inconvenience. This new form was originally from a different timeline, adding depth to its existence.
Golem's notable abilities are extensive and primarily revolve around transformation and advanced weaponry. It can deploy a small reconnaissance drone disguised as a fly for covert information gathering. For combat, it can morph its own limbs into weapons, such as transforming its right hand into a sniper rifle for long-range elimination. Its most powerful form is the Golem Battle Vehicle type Gunner, a giant robot-like body equipped with devastating weapons, including gatling guns that fire silverine bullets and powerful solar light weapons. These solar weapons, which harness sunlight for intense light attacks, are especially effective against dragons but are rendered useless if the sun is blocked by enemy magic. In this formidable form, Golem serves as the team's principal artillery, capable of engaging massive dragon-class enemies in direct confrontation.
