Description
Ken Ryūgūji, widely known by his nickname Draken, serves as the vice-president and a founding member of the Tokyo Manji Gang, often referred to as Toman. Born on May 10, 1990, he is a tall and muscular teenager, standing at 185 centimeters (approximately 6 feet 1 inch) and weighing 75 kilograms. His most recognizable features include a long braid of blonde hair on top of his head, with the sides and back of his head shaved to prominently display a black dragon tattoo on his left temple. He typically wears the standard black Tokkō-fuku uniform of Toman, while his favorite casual attire includes a patterned long jacket. A scar on the left side of his abdomen remains from a knife wound he sustained in a past conflict.

Draken was abandoned by his biological mother at the age of two at a red-light district establishment in Shibuya called Justis, where he was subsequently raised by the women who worked there. This unconventional upbringing gave him a unique perspective and a deep sense of responsibility. His daily life includes tending to chores around the establishment, such as fixing lightbulbs, and he is known to provide counseling to the young women there, which has honed his listening skills. His hobby and passion lie in working on machines, especially motorcycles, at which he is exceptionally skilled; he dreams of one day owning his own repair shop. He has a particular fondness for his custom Kawasaki Zephyr 400 motorcycle.

In terms of personality, Draken is characterized as the mature and logical counterpart to Toman's president, Mikey. He is level-headed, possesses a strong sense of justice, and is often the voice of reason, capable of tempering Mikey's more chaotic or impulsive tendencies. While he loves a good fight and can be aggressive and rude towards enemies or those he considers beneath him, he is deeply caring, loyal, and protective of his friends and comrades. He dislikes showing overt affection, but demonstrates his care through his actions, such as carrying a sleeping Mikey on his back, waking him up for school, or taking him out for his favorite foods. His core belief is embodied in his personal credo of never running away, and he values a "heart that cares about others" above all else.

Draken's motivations are closely tied to his loyalty to his friends and his commitment to the gang's founding principles. Having grown up without a family, he found a sense of belonging with Mikey and the other founding members, and his primary drive is to protect this newfound family and the "golden era for delinquents" they sought to create. He acts as a stabilizing force, ensuring that Toman does not devolve into a senselessly violent group but instead adheres to a moral code. His role in the story is critical as the second-in-command, where his authority is nearly equal to Mikey's, and he is responsible for commanding members and boosting morale. He is considered the second-strongest fighter in Toman, with fighting prowess described as fearsome. He is a brawler who relies on simple but devastatingly powerful kicks and punches, and his endurance is remarkable; he has been shown to continue fighting even after being hit in the head with a metal pipe or suffering a life-threatening stab wound. He is capable of taking on dozens of opponents single-handedly and changing the course of a battle.

His key relationships are central to his character. His bond with Manjirō "Mikey" Sano is a deep, life-defining friendship; they met in the fifth grade of elementary school and founded Toman together, with Draken serving as Mikey's unwavering partner and the firm ground that keeps him from being consumed by his darker impulses. He shares a close bond with the other founding members, including Keisuke Baji, Takashi Mitsuya, and Pah-chin. He also has a notable relationship with Emma Sano, Mikey's younger sister, for whom he harbors deep romantic feelings; he once gave her a plushie she had wanted for a long time. His relationship with the protagonist, Takemichi Hanagaki, evolves from initial disdain to a strong respect and liking, as Draken admires Takemichi's unwavering spirit and willingness to stand up for what he believes in, regardless of his lack of strength.

In the "Christmas Showdown" arc, which centers on the conflict with the Tenjiku gang on Christmas Eve 2008, Draken plays a pivotal role. During the decisive battle, he demonstrates his immense strength and strategic importance by single-handedly eliminating the one hundred enemy members stationed outside the main battlefield at the church, preventing them from interfering with the core fight. This act showcases his role as a powerful guardian of Toman. The tragic climax of this arc sees Draken shot and killed by Tetta Kisaki, an event meant to cripple Toman and drive Mikey further into darkness. This death is a turning point, underscoring how integral Draken is to the gang's very foundation and survival. Throughout the various timelines altered by Takemichi's time-leaping, Draken's fate changes. In some futures, he is executed for murder, becomes a member of the criminal organization Bonten, or even kills Mikey. However, in the final, corrected timeline, he avoids his tragic death, marries Emma Sano, and fulfills his dream of becoming the head mechanic for Mikey's auto racing team, finally achieving a peaceful and happy life. His development throughout the series solidifies him as the heart and moral compass of Toman, a character whose presence is fundamental to the story's outcome.
