Description
Leonis Death Magnus, whose original name was Leonis Shealto, is the central figure of the story, a being whose existence bridges two vastly different eras. In the year 447 of the Holy Calendar, he was known as the Undead King, the most powerful and final surviving Dark Lord following a catastrophic war against the Six Heroes. Before conquering his realm of Necrozoa was complete, he chose to seal himself away, casting a powerful resurrection spell with the intention of reawakening after a thousand years to rebuild his demonic army and fulfill a mission given to him by the Goddess of Rebellion.

His origin, however, is that of a former hero. Before becoming a dark lord, Leonis was once one of the six heroes himself, revered as the greatest swordsman and the Hero of the Holy Sword. His path darkened after he was betrayed and assassinated by the very nobles he had saved. On the verge of death, a mysterious girl resurrected him, transforming the betrayed hero into an Undead Dark Lord. This event cemented his devotion to her mission, which was to overthrow the world, shaping his identity for centuries to come.

Personality wise, Leonis is a fascinating contradiction. Having lived for over a thousand years as a powerful demon lord, he possesses the intellect, strategic mind, and cynical worldview of an ancient being. He is calculating, prideful, and initially views humans as tools or potential subjects for his future army. His ultimate ambition remains to understand the new world and eventually conquer it, as per his oath. However, his reincarnation into the body of a ten-year-old boy introduces a new dynamic to his character. He struggles with the limitations and instincts of a youthful form, which often leads to amusing situations where his grandiose demon lord declarations come across as childish or embarrassing, especially when interrupted by his companions. Despite his dark ambitions, he shows a pragmatic sense of honor and care, particularly towards those he considers his subordinates.

Leonis's core motivation is twofold. Primarily, he seeks to fulfill his promise to the Goddess of Rebellion, which involves finding her vessel and building a new demonic army to conquer the world. To achieve this, he must first gather information about the radically changed civilization of the future, a world where magic has been replaced by holy swords and humanity faces a new threat called Voids. He enrolls at Excalibur Academy as a refugee to observe this new society. His secondary, and increasingly significant, motivation is tied to his growing attachment to the people he meets, particularly Riselia, which often puts him in the position of a protector rather than a conqueror.

In the story, Leonis serves as the protagonist, driving the plot through his interactions with the modern world and his secret manipulations from within Excalibur Academy. Posing as a seemingly weak amnesiac boy, he uses his vast knowledge of ancient sorcery to protect his new allies from the Voids and other emerging threats, all while trying to remain unnoticed. His role often involves secretly commanding his own retainers and confronting resurrected enemies from his past, all while navigating the social and academic life of a military academy.

His key relationships significantly shape his character development. Riselia Ray Crystalia, the girl who discovered and awakened him, is his most important connection. After she died protecting him, he resurrected her as a high-ranking undead, making her his first and most loyal servant. Despite their master-servant dynamic, Leonis has grown accustomed to her company and is fiercely protective of her, becoming angered by anyone who threatens her. Regina Mercedes is another key figure; a childhood friend of Riselia who quickly discerns Leonis's mature nature. She delights in teasing him, often using his physical age as a source of amusement, and he in turn considers her under his protection. Other important relationships include Shary, his personal and fiercely loyal servant, and Elfiné Phillet, another member of his platoon whom he supports. A significant figure from his past is Roselia, the Goddess of Rebellion, whose request for him to overthrow the world is the very foundation of his mission. He also harbors a past connection to Saint Tearis Ressurrectia, a hero he once promised to kill if she ever ceased to be herself.

Leonis undergoes subtle but important development throughout the story. Initially viewing everyone as potential pawns for his conquest, he begins to form genuine bonds with his companions, particularly Riselia. His cold, pragmatic decisions are increasingly influenced by a desire to protect those close to him, effectively pushing him back towards the role of a hero, even if he is using demonic powers to do so. His secretive nature also creates a barrier that he must navigate, as he struggles to balance his true identity with the relationships he is forming.

As a former Demon Lord and ancient sorcerer, Leonis possesses a vast array of notable abilities that far surpass the magic of the modern era. He is proficient in high-level necromancy and resurrection spells, as demonstrated when he revived Riselia after her death. He commands the Demon Sword, a weapon of immense power that allows him to destroy colossal threats, though its full use may require claiming territory as his own. He can also perform feats such as petrifying enemies en masse and using his own blood to empower his servants. He is an expert combatant, easily defeating powerful Voids that overwhelm trained holy swordsmen. After reviving Riselia, he also gains a link to her, allowing him to draw power from her to fuel his own abilities. His immense power is a stark contrast to the holy swords of the current age, marking him as an anomaly from a forgotten, more dangerous time.
