TV-Series
Description
Carla is an Exceed, a feline-like being from the parallel world of Edolas, specifically the kingdom of Extalia. She is the daughter of Queen Shagotte and was sent to Earth-land as an egg to protect her from Extalia's prophesied destruction. Her egg was discovered and hatched by the young Dragon Slayer Wendy Marvell, forging an unbreakable bond between them. Initially, the pair resided in the guild Cait Shelter before eventually joining the Fairy Tail guild. Following the guild's temporary disbandment, Carla and Wendy briefly joined Lamia Scale before returning to help rebuild Fairy Tail.

Carla presents a stark contrast to the carefree and lighthearted nature of her fellow Exceed, Happy. She is predominantly serious, strict, and reserved, often suppressing her overt emotions. This demeanor stems from her deep maternal concern for Wendy, whom she acts as a protector and caretaker for, frequently guiding and scolding the younger girl to help her overcome her natural timidity. Carla was initially aloof and dismissive towards most others, turning her nose up at those outside her partnership with Wendy and showing particular disdain for Happy's early attempts at friendship. Her purpose as an Exceed was a source of great internal conflict and sadness, as she misinterpreted a prophecy as a mission to kill a Dragon Slayer, a directive that clashed painfully with her growing affection for Wendy.

Carla's primary motivation is the safety and well-being of Wendy Marvell, whom she guards with a near-maternal instinct. Her actions are consistently driven by a desire to protect her partner and guide her through the dangers they face. This is complicated by the burden of her heritage. Having inherited the ability of precognition from her mother, she carries the weight of troubling visions. Much of her early story is defined by her struggle with what she believed was her mission, only to learn the truth of the prophecy regarding Extalia's destruction.

Within the story, Carla serves as Wendy's constant companion and voice of reason. She often provides a more cautious and analytical perspective to counterbalance the reckless bravado of other guild members, particularly Natsu Dragneel. Her role expands significantly during the Edolas arc, where the truth of her origins and her connection to Queen Shagotte comes to light, making her a central figure in the conflict. After learning the truth, she demonstrates fierce defiance against the predetermined fate assigned to her, asserting her own will and loyalty to her friends.

Carla's key relationship is, unquestionably, with Wendy Marvell. Their bond is one of deep trust and mutual dependence, with Carla acting as a surrogate parent and strategic advisor. Her relationship with Happy is a significant part of her development. Initially despising him and rejecting his gifts of fish, she began to accept him after witnessing his determination, bravery, and dedication to protecting his friends during the Edolas arc. Happy defended her autonomy against the mission's narrative, which marked a turning point. Over time, their dynamic evolved into one of mutual respect and camaraderie, with Carla eventually showing him warmth, smiling, and even dancing with him. As the princess of Extalia, her connection to her mother, Queen Shagotte, is a crucial part of her background, both for her inherited precognition and the prophecy that dictated her early life.

Carla undergoes notable character development, transforming from a distant, emotionally guarded figure into a more integrated and open member of Fairy Tail. While she retains her core serious nature, she becomes less aloof and more willing to trust and rely on her guildmates. Her initial hostility towards Happy softens into a deep, unspoken bond, and she begins to smile and laugh more often, usually in his presence. She evolves from strictly following a perceived mission to fiercely rejecting any fate that threatens her friends and her home, proudly declaring her identity as a member of Fairy Tail.

Carla possesses several notable abilities. Like all Exceeds, she can use Aera, a magic that allows her to sprout angel-like wings on her back to fly, and she is strong enough to carry at least one person while airborne. She can utilize Max Speed for accelerated flight, though this rapidly drains her magical power. Her most unique talent is Precognition, an ability inherited from her mother that allows her to see glimpses of the future, making her one of only two Exceeds with this power. Later in the series, Carla trains and gains the ability to use Transformation Magic, allowing her to assume a human form, appearing as a young girl around Wendy's age. In this form, her magical power, physical strength, and precognitive abilities are enhanced. In combat, she has demonstrated agility and strength, using swift kicks such as the White Moon, a cartwheel dropkick powerful enough to fell an opponent. She also uses Scratch, a technique where she flies horizontally to slash targets with her wings.
