TV-Series
Description
Anne Littstein is a central supporting character in the anime Tearmoon Empire, serving as the personal maid and most trusted confidante to Princess Mia Luna Tearmoon. She is a young woman who appears to be a few years older than the princess, with a plain but pleasant appearance common to village girls. She has round blue eyes and faint freckles dotting her nose, and her red hair is often styled in twin tails.

Born a commoner, Anne is the eldest daughter of a large, poor merchant family with four younger sisters and one younger brother. Her initial motivation for working at the imperial palace was simply to earn money to support her struggling family, a fact that led her and others to believe she was not worthy of a prestigious position as a princess's personal attendant. Her appointment to this role is a direct result of Princess Mia's memories from a previous, doomed timeline, where Anne was one of the very few people who remained loyal to the imprisoned princess until the very end, visiting her regularly to care for her and even attempting a rescue.

In terms of personality, Anne is characterized by her clumsiness and a somewhat scatterbrained nature, which often leads to mistakes in her duties. Despite these shortcomings, she is an exceptionally hardworking and determined individual who strives to improve herself constantly. Her defining trait is her profound gratitude and unwavering loyalty to Princess Mia. She is deeply moved by the kindness and trust Mia shows her and her family, and she has sworn to remain by the princess's side no matter the circumstances. This devotion, however, is a source of personal insecurity for Anne. When Mia leaves her behind on a dangerous mission, Anne feels great pain, fearing that she is a burden due to her lack of certain skills, such as riding a horse. True to her character, she uses these experiences as motivation, taking lessons to improve in those areas so she will never be left behind again.

Anne's role in the story is multifaceted. She is Mia's primary caretaker, but she also acts as a close friend, a sounding board, and an occasional unwitting catalyst for Mia's schemes. For example, her simple actions and suggestions often lead Mia to actions that are interpreted by others as great wisdom. Her relationship with Mia is the most significant in her life. What began as a job transformed into a deep bond of loyalty in the original timeline, and in the current timeline, Mia actively works to repay that kindness, creating a mutually supportive and sister-like relationship between the princess and her maid. Anne also has a relationship with her younger sister, Elise. It is implied that the stories Anne tells Elise about Mia become the foundation for the exaggerated "Chronicles of Saint Princess Mia," a book that contributes to Mia's legendary reputation.

Throughout the series, Anne undergoes noticeable development. She evolves from a self-conscious, clumsy maid who doubts her own worth into a more confident and capable individual. Her determination to learn new skills like horseback riding and baking is a direct result of her desire to be more useful to Mia. A notable example is her quest to learn how to bake a Castilla cake, a promise she was unable to fulfill in the previous timeline due to economic hardship, which she now learns from scratch as a precaution. Her abilities, while not extraordinary, are practical and grow over time. They include academic study to assist Mia, baking, and horsemanship, all pursued with the singular goal of serving her princess to the best of her ability.
