Description
Gina is a Negator whose ability, Unchange, allows her to deny any alteration to the form of non-living objects she touches with her bare hands or feet. She primarily uses this power to solidify air, creating invisible barriers, platforms, and weapons. Her techniques include forming massive, intangible hands to capture fast-moving targets and conjuring enormous blades of unchanging air capable of cutting through colossal enemies and the earth itself.
Possessing an external-targeting, voluntary-activation type of negation, Gina can switch her ability on and off rapidly, shaping the unchanging air through concentrated willpower, though she herself does not fully understand the mechanics behind her more complex constructs. While she appears to be a teenage girl, her actual age is 66. Her youthful appearance is maintained through a combination of anti-aging technology and her own power, which she uses to permanently fix her makeup in place.
Gina's background is marked by tragedy. As a child, she accidentally activated Unchange on the surrounding air, causing the suffocation of 40,000 civilians. This catastrophic event led her to join the organization of Negators to which she belongs, a group she has served for over five decades. She originates from the Soviet Union and has a fondness for art and Japanese schoolgirl fashion.
On the surface, Gina is cheerful, proud, and somewhat childish, but these traits belie a deeper, more tragic nature. Her personality is defined by a profound love for things that never change, including memories, drawings, and most significantly, her feelings for Andy. This fixation on constancy stems from a fear of aging and change, leading her to highly value her appearance. She carries a deep-seated guilt over her past actions and the necessity of killing to survive, a burden for which her unwavering love for Andy serves as an emotional anchor. While she sees Fuuko Izumo as both a friend and a romantic rival, her feelings are complex, ranging from jealousy to genuine affection.
Gina's role in the story is initially that of an antagonist, capturing Andy as a test subject over fifty years prior to the main events and later pursuing him after his escape. She holds a one-sided, romantic affection for Andy, which she has maintained for half a century. Her defining confrontation with Andy and Fuuko ends in her defeat, during which she dies peacefully in Andy's arms, leaving her uniform to Fuuko as an inheritance. In a subsequent loop of the universe, Gina is reborn and becomes a trusted ally. As the second seat of the organization's ruling council, she carries the knowledge of her previous life's events through Fuuko's actions and becomes her most loyal supporter and right hand. Her character arc revolves around moving from despair and a fear of change towards redemption and embracing the future, ultimately making peace with her past self and finding new purpose in protecting Fuuko. Her key relationships include her unrequited love for Andy, her friend-rival dynamic with Fuuko, and her respect for other veteran members.
