Description
Holm, also known as Holm Kranom, is a supporting character in Delicious in Dungeon. He is a male gnome cleric who serves as one of the two magic users in Kabru's adventuring party. Physically, Holm has short brown hair and distinctive half-lidded dark eyes. He typically wears a dark robe and a beret, which, along with his short stature of approximately 140 centimeters, makes him easily recognizable. At 76 years old, he is a full-grown adult by gnome standards. His birthday is on August 3rd.
In terms of personality, Holm presents a calm, laid-back, and serene demeanor, projecting a gentle and somewhat fluffy presence. However, beneath this relaxed exterior, he can be quite harsh in his judgment of others. A notable quirk of his personality is a tendency to become easily overwhelmed and freeze up when multiple events occur simultaneously, which can hinder his performance in chaotic situations.
Holm's background reveals that he is a researcher of ancient spirit magic. His research once led him to be imprisoned in the western lands by elves, who confiscated his findings. He has an older sister who also researches spirits and lives on the Island, but the two do not speak to each other. This family connection is further complicated by Kabru, who is friends with Holm's sister and occasionally receives updates from her about the party's activities, a fact that makes Holm suspicious of his leader.
His motivations are closely tied to his magical specialty and his care for his summoned companions. Holm masters magic that utilizes four types of elemental spirits, including water, wind, fire, and earth. He keeps several of these spirits at his side at all times, giving each one an individual name and caring for them deeply. His known spirits include the water undine named Marillier and the earth gnome named Essiet. He is hesitant to summon them in unfavorable circumstances due to his concern for their well-being. Outside of combat, Holm is also capable of performing resurrection magic.
Holm's role in the story becomes critical during a major confrontation with the chimera form of Falin Touden. In the battle, he sends out his undine Marillier to attack, but the spirit is quickly killed by Falin's powerful spellcasting. Holm is visibly devastated by the loss, which largely takes him out of the rest of the fight. He only manages to summon his earth elemental Essiet to protect himself from Falin's final attack.
Following the battle, Holm recovers and immediately offers his skills as a healer, taking the lead in resurrecting the fallen members of the group. He first revives Kabru, then Maizuru, and proceeds to work with her to resurrect everyone, using whatever materials they have available, including food. After the resurrections are complete, Holm assists Marcille and Rin in establishing a magical barrier for the group to rest behind.
His key relationships include his dynamic with Kabru. While he is suspicious of Kabru's friendship with his older sister, he also observes his leader with a critical eye, once thinking to himself that Kabru will do anything to gain someone's trust. Holm is often seen with Daya, though they are not described as being particularly close friends, simply being similar in age and fellow party members.
Holm does not undergo a dramatic personal development arc, but his actions in the aftermath of the battle demonstrate his resilience and crucial value to the party. Despite initially freezing in combat and suffering the loss of one of his beloved spirits, he quickly refocuses to become the key figure in reorganizing and reviving the entire group, allowing them to survive and retreat to the surface.
