Description
Crystal Bowie is the primary antagonist in Space Adventure Cobra: The Movie. This humanoid cyborg possesses a golden skeleton encased in an indestructible glass body, creating a unique visual signature. His detachable right-hand claw serves as a signature weapon, capable of crushing objects, slitting throats, firing lasers, functioning as a grappling hook, or launching as a projectile.
He commands authority within the Pirate Guild, a criminal organization pursuing galactic domination. As Cobra's archenemy, their conflict stems from a past encounter where Crystal Bowie severed Cobra's left arm, leading to its replacement with the Psychogun cybernetic weapon.
Within the film's events, Crystal Bowie orchestrates the imprisonment of Catherine Royal on the planet Sido. He manipulates her into betraying her sister Jane, resulting in Jane's death. Later, he confronts Cobra and the Snow Guerrillas on an ice planet, killing their leader Sandra and Jane's other sister, Dominique.
The climax unfolds on the artificial star Myrus, where Crystal Bowie reveals the Pirate Guild's plan to destroy the Seventh Galaxy as a demonstration of power. Cobra ultimately defeats and kills him during their final confrontation. This death breaks Crystal Bowie's control over Catherine, enabling her sacrifice to prevent the Pirate Guild's galactic destruction scheme.
Crystal Bowie exhibits traits of cruelty and megalomania, lacking presented redeeming qualities or a tragic backstory. His character design and role pay homage to David Bowie, reflected in his Japanese name "Crystal Bowie".
