TV-Series
Description
Annette is an elf who works as a priestess at the cathedral in the fantasy world of Zaubaberg, where she is responsible for greeting and guiding people summoned from other worlds. She is the one who summons the protagonist known as Sensei, expecting him to be a hero. At first, she finds his strange and morbid demeanor confusing, but she quickly becomes captivated by his unique personality.
In terms of personality, Annette is defined by her pure-hearted and kind nature, always eager to help others. She is extremely devoted and, by her own account, feels she has been waiting for someone like Sensei her whole life. However, this devotion is accompanied by a notable naivety, as she tends to trust people too easily, which sometimes puts her in vulnerable positions. Annette also displays a jealous and somewhat possessive side, particularly when other women show interest in Sensei, which can make her emotional and visibly hurt.
Her motivations change dramatically over the course of the story. Initially, she takes great pride in her work at the cathedral, but she becomes disillusioned after dealing with many selfish and rude individuals from other worlds. This leads her to perform her duties mechanically, without genuine feeling. Meeting Sensei restores her lost sense of purpose. She is so moved and inspired by him that she decides to quit her job as a priestess to follow him on his journey, demonstrating her complete shift in loyalty and her new goal to stay by his side.
Annette plays a central role as a primary companion and the emotional anchor for Sensei. She manages to quit her position to travel with him, though the magical creature she entrusted with her resignation letter fails to deliver it, making her departure appear unannounced. In the party, she often acts as the gentle and caring presence, contrasting with Sensei’s gloomy and suicidal demeanor. Her role is not just that of a follower; in a critical moment, she is controlled by an enemy otherworlder and forced to attack Sensei. To break free, she turns the blade on herself rather than harm him, showcasing her strength of will and deep affection.
Her key relationships are with Sensei and her fellow priestess Ysha. Her bond with Sensei is one of deep admiration and romantic love, though it is sometimes unbalanced due to her extreme loyalty and jealousy. Ysha, her best friend and colleague, serves as a concerned observer, often worrying about Annette’s naivety and the intensity of her devotion to Sensei.
Annette undergoes significant development from a disillusioned, routine-bound priestess into a proactive adventurer driven by personal conviction and love. Her return to her snowy elf home village later in the story further explores her background and the societal pressures she faced there, adding depth to her character. As for abilities, Annette is a skilled priestess with advanced capabilities, but she does not possess any unique or powerful combat abilities; her strengths lie in her healing and support skills as well as her deep knowledge of guiding otherworlders.
