Description
Adam Taylor is a young man of eighteen years who serves as a close aide and loyal subordinate to Noah Volstaire Wynknight. He hails from the minority ethnic group known as Alsasa, a background that unfortunately subjects him to discrimination and scorn within the kingdom. Before entering the service of the Wynknight family, Adam fought on the front lines as a boy soldier in the Kingdom of Cheimos, an experience that forged his exceptional skill with a sword. His prowess in combat is such that he has gained a legendary reputation among his peers for his ability to survive even the most desperate and dangerous situations, leading to him being called the man who always returns alive.
Adam is a man of very few words who rarely displays any emotion on his face, giving him a stoic and seemingly cold demeanor that can be intimidating at first. This reserved nature means he typically only speaks to people he has come to trust. Despite this impassive exterior, he has a notable fondness for sweets, with chocolate almonds being a particular favorite. When Noah enters into a temporary engagement with Raeliana McMillan, Adam is assigned as her personal knight and bodyguard. In this role, he serves a dual purpose: he is her visible protector, but he is also tasked by Noah with monitoring her to ensure she does not engage in any suspicious activities when the Duke is not present.
Adam’s personality is such that his sparse words carry significant weight. When Noah asks for his impression of Raeliana, Adam describes her as strange, a comment that Noah interprets as a highly positive assessment coming from him. This suggests that Adam’s judgment is highly valued by his master. Over time, despite his duty to watch her, Adam seems to develop a genuine liking for Raeliana. This is evident in small gestures and his willingness to follow her lead; for instance, he supports her opposition to executing a captive without a trial and is not forced to kill on her orders. His loyalty to Raeliana can become so strong that he is eventually willing to disobey commands from Noah for her sake.
Throughout the story, Adam’s role is that of a steadfast guardian whose quiet competence provides a reliable source of support for Raeliana. While he initially appears purely as an impassive soldier, his character shows subtle development as his interactions with Raeliana reveal a softer, more loyal side. Later in the series, his demeanor shifts slightly from being purely stoic, and he is even shown to be rather gullible, as seen when he earnestly believes Noah’s teasing claim that Raeliana wants a dragon. His notable abilities are centered on his legendary swordsmanship and his almost miraculous knack for surviving life-threatening encounters, making him an invaluable asset to the Wynknight household and an effective, if quiet, protector for Raeliana.
