TV-Series
Description
Cecily is a priestess of the Axis Order, the religious sect that worships the goddess Aqua. She is first encountered serving under the arch-priest Zesta in the city of Arcanletia, the order's holy site, before she is eventually promoted to lead the Axis Church's branch in the adventurer's town of Axel.
In terms of appearance, Cecily is a young woman with long, flowing blonde hair and matching blue eyes. She is described as being quite attractive, and she typically wears the standard blue nun attire of the Axis Order. Her appearance can be misleading, as her personality is far from the pious and humble ideal one might expect from a nun.
Cecily is a lively, impetuous, and mischievous individual who is unapologetically true to her own desires. She is vain, frequently proclaiming her own beauty, and she lives a life of relative poverty because she carelessly spends all her money on her favorite food, a type of gelatinous slime. Like many of her fellow cultists, she is a scammer who frequently devises fraudulent schemes to trick people into joining her church or to simply get what she wants. Despite her lazy and selfish demeanor, she is a devout follower of the Axis Church and its somewhat hedonistic commandments. She also has a well-developed talent for tormenting the followers of the rival Eris Order, often vandalizing their property or spreading false rumors about them, though she is not above taking advantage of their charity meals when she is broke.
A defining and often comical aspect of Cecily's personality is her obsession with young girls. She has an open attraction to "li'l sister" types and fantasizes about one day marrying a rich, handsome man so she can afford to keep a harem of little girls who dote on her. This leads her to persistently fawn over and harass young-looking women, most notably the Crimson Demon arch-wizard Megumin, whom she constantly tries to get to call her "big sister". She is also easily attracted to handsome and wealthy men, such as the adventurer Kyouya Mitsurugi, whom she aggressively pursued for his money and sword. Despite her often scatterbrained behavior, Cecily possesses surprisingly sharp observational skills. Unlike the vast majority of Axis cultists, she was able to instantly recognize Aqua's true identity as her goddess upon their first meeting.
Cecily's role in the story is most prominent in the spin-off series focusing on Megumin's past. She meets Megumin shortly after the young mage leaves her village and arrives in Arcanletia. Cecily initially tries to trick the starving Megumin into signing a conversion form for the Axis Order in exchange for a meal, a ploy that ultimately fails. Nevertheless, the two form an unlikely bond, with Cecily acting as a chaotic older sister figure to Megumin during her time in the city. She enlists Megumin's help in her various schemes, which include sabotaging rival priests and petitioning for votes in a church leadership election. Later, after arriving in Axel, Cecily continues to be a source of comic relief and unexpected assistance, such as when she heals and blesses Megumin before a crucial battle. Her relationship with Aqua is also significant; as one of the few who knows Aqua is her goddess incarnate, she takes steps to protect her, such as deliberately choosing a slow carriage to delay Aqua's journey so her companions can catch up.
Over the course of her appearances, Cecily shows some development in her ambitions. While initially a priestess serving under another, she eventually sets out on an adventuring journey to raise her level and gain the skills necessary to lead her own church. This goal is achieved when she is later placed in charge of the Axis Order's branch in Axel. Her love for experimenting with her favorite gelatinous slime also leads her to dabble in strange alchemy, creating modified versions that sometimes escape and cause trouble in the city.
In terms of abilities, Cecily is a priestess capable of using clerical magic. Her spells are cast in the name of the goddess Aqua and are primarily useful for supporting allies and combating undead monsters. The most notable spells she can use are Heal, which instantly cures wounds, and Blessing, a spell that temporarily increases the target's luck. While her skills are functional, her abilities are not initially portrayed as exceptional, which is part of the motivation for her later journey to grow stronger.
