Makoto Tainuma is a supporting character in Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction. He originally comes from the same small town as Futaba, and the two are former middle school classmates. Although assigned male at birth, Makoto has a strong desire to present as a girl and wear women's clothing, including a blonde wig. He does not identify as transgender or homosexual; rather, he explains that he simply wants to be seen as cute and beautiful, and to be loved by everyone. His personal dream is to become an idol. While still living in his hometown, he already crossdressed in secret. Seeking the freedom to live his lifestyle openly, he moves to Tokyo alongside Futaba, and the two reconnect on a flight to the city where he confides his aspirations. Once in Tokyo, Makoto finds an accepting social circle among the main group of friends, including Futaba, Kadode, Ouran, Rin, Ai, and Oba. He quickly bonds with Ouran, nicknamed Ontan, over their shared love of video games. Described as having an uncouth or rough manner, Makoto contrasts outwardly with his feminine presentation, but his personality is genuine and he is unapologetic about his identity. His role in the story is that of a friend and peer who navigates the challenges of self-expression and acceptance against the backdrop of an alien-invasion-tinged everyday life. Over the course of the narrative, he grows more comfortable in his own skin and deepens his friendships within the group. He has no notable supernatural or combat abilities; his strengths lie in his determination to be himself and his willingness to pursue his own version of happiness.
