Description
Kimi Shirokado is the central character of the story, an eccentric young girl of nine years old who resides within the aging, low-cost Housing Complex C in the fictional seaside town of Kurosaki. Physically, she is depicted with chestnut brown hair and brown eyes, often wearing a distinctive dress with a cat-like motif that includes a tail on the back.

On the surface, Kimi presents a happy-go-lucky and cheerful demeanor, a personality that endears her to the elderly residents of the complex, who dote on her and look out for her as if she were family. She is playful and well-liked by nearly everyone she meets, displaying the typical energy and eccentricities of a child her age. However, this cheerful exterior masks a far deeper and more ancient awareness, as she often hints that she knows more about the strange events plaguing the complex than she lets on. Throughout much of the story, she acts as a catalyst for peace, organizing events like a shaved ice party in an attempt to foster harmony between the long-time Japanese residents and newly arrived Middle Eastern fishing interns. This desire for communal peace is her primary motivation, revealing that beneath her childish games, her ultimate goal is to observe whether humans can live together without descending into violence and discord.

The narrative reveals that Kimi is far from an ordinary girl. It is disclosed that she is the earthly avatar or physical form of Iyoyoroki Soyohosu, a supreme, reality-warping deity of time and space who is implied to be far more powerful than the lesser god, Kuzululu, worshiped by other characters. Her role in the story is that of a silent observer and judge of humanity. To conduct her experiment in human harmony, she trapped the entire town of Kurosaki in a frozen, looping state of time, forcing the residents to relive the year 2000 repeatedly while the rest of the world moved forward. She is directly connected to the mysterious events in the complex, as her power automatically transforms the corpses of deceased humans into moss.

Her key relationships are central to the plot. She forms a close friendship with Yuri Koshide, a slightly older girl who moves into the complex from Tokyo and acts as a big sister figure. This friendship, however, is built on deception from both sides, as Yuri and her family are secretly cultists using the complex for ritualistic murders. The elderly residents, including the professor Takashi, are fiercely protective of Kimi, partly due to her inherent charm, which subtly influences others to care for her without questioning the odd circumstances of her life, such as the fact that her mother is never seen. She also shares a significant bond with Kanchan, one of the foreign interns, whom she saves by giving him a protective charm and the knowledge of a spell to survive the final resetting of reality.

Kimi undergoes a significant character shift in the story's climax. After witnessing the Koshide family massacre nearly all the residents to revive their god, she abandons her hopeful, playful persona. Her patience with humanity exhausted, she reveals her true nature, darkly and seriously condemning Yuri and her family for their violence before effortlessly destroying them. This disillusionment leads her to end the time loop, allowing reality to reset to the present day with the town restored to its original name, Shirosaki, leaving the complex in ruins. Her development shows a transition from a hopeful observer to a being who has given up on humanity, yet her final act of sparing Kanchan suggests a lingering ember of her benevolent nature.

As a deity, Kimi possesses a vast array of godlike abilities. She has complete control over space and time, enabling her to rewind, loop, or freeze time for a specific region. She can create lesser gods, resurrect beings, and warp reality itself to rewrite history. She demonstrates the power to manipulate matter and life, such as turning bodies to moss or keeping her own mother alive as a fetus in a plant vase. Her abilities also include flight, clairvoyance, dimensional travel, and the creation of protective artifacts, such as a sacred stone bearing the Elder Sign that can ward off the followers of lesser deities like Kuzululu. Her very presence exudes a charm that influences the emotions and memories of those around her, ensuring they view her with love and protection.
