Description
The character known as Meister, also frequently referred to as Teacher or Master, is the central protagonist and narrator of his story. He begins his existence not in a fantasy world, but as an unnamed thirty-year-old office worker in modern-day Japan. This man was an enthusiast of anime, manga, and virtual reality games, with a friendly personality and a particular fondness for cooking curry. His life is cut short when he is killed in an accident involving a distracted truck driver. Upon his death, he finds himself reincarnated in a new world, not as a hero or a monster, but as a sentient magical sword.
In his new form, Meister appears as a beautifully crafted white longsword. The blade features three blue lines, and beneath a pale gold hilt is a small sculpture of a wolf. The handle is wrapped in an intricate lattice of blue and white strings. His appearance is not static, as he later gains the ability to change his shape and size, transforming into other weapons like a dagger or an axe, or even shrinking down for discreet observation.
Meister's personality is defined by his role as a guardian and father figure to Fran, a young Black Cat beastgirl who becomes his wielder. He is generally kind, well-mannered, and analytical, often approaching situations with the logical mindset one might expect from a former salaryman and gamer. He has a habit of mentally comparing the levels and ranks of monsters and people he encounters, a remnant of his love for game mechanics. However, his calm demeanor shifts dramatically when anyone disrespects or attempts to harm Fran. In such situations, he becomes fiercely protective and does not hesitate to act.
His primary motivation is closely tied to Fran. After she frees him from a monster and is abused by a slave trader, Meister kills the trader, and the two form an immediate bond. From that point forward, his driving goal is to help Fran grow stronger, achieve her dream of becoming an adventurer, and ultimately defeat the formidable monster that destroyed her homeland. He is entirely devoted to her well-being and development, seeing his own evolution as a weapon as a means to that end.
Meister's role in the story is that of a mentor, a protector, and a tool. He serves as the constant companion and tactical mind to Fran's raw instinct and physical prowess. While Fran wields him in combat, Meister analyzes opponents, devises strategies, and provides the magical power and special abilities that make them a formidable team. He often thinks several steps ahead in a battle, compensating for Fran's inexperience with his calm, analytical planning.
The key relationship in his existence is, without a doubt, with Fran. Their bond transcends that of a simple weapon and wielder, resembling a deep, familial connection. He is her teacher, parent figure, and closest friend. Their relationship is mutually beneficial and deeply affectionate. Other significant relationships develop over time, including those with powerful adventurers who become their allies, such as the renowned A-rank adventurer Amanda, but none are as central as the one he shares with Fran.
Meister undergoes significant development, primarily in terms of power and ability. He possesses a unique skill called Self-Evolution, which allows him to grow stronger by absorbing the magic stones of defeated monsters. This process grants him new skills, which he can then share with Fran through his Skill Share ability. Over the course of his journey, he evolves from a mere sentient weapon into a divine sword of immense power, acquiring and upgrading a vast array of skills, from elemental magic and blacksmithing to the manipulation of space and time.
His notable abilities are extensive and versatile. His core skills include Telekinesis, which allows him to fly and wield himself; Appraisal, which lets him see the stats and skills of anyone or anything; Transform, for changing his shape; and High-Speed Self-Repair. He has a special ability called Skill Taker that can permanently steal skills from opponents. Later in his development, he masters powerful techniques like Space-Time Magic, which enables teleportation and the use of a Dimension Shift to become intangible, as well as the Dimensional Sword, an attack that cuts through space itself and ignores conventional defenses. He can also use a Divine Attribute, an element that can harm any foe regardless of their immunities.
