TV-Series
Description
Curran is one of the four main characters in the group of adventurers who form the central party of the story. She is a young dragonkin, often referred to as a dragon girl or dragonoid, a non-human race distinguished by her draconic features. Curran has bright velvet-colored hair, which is a shade of red, and matching gold or red eyes, depending on the source. Her hair is typically cut to around shoulder length. She has horns and a tail, which are characteristic traits of her race, and she is notably taller than many other characters. Her appearance is also marked by an ahoge, a single strand of hair that sticks up from the rest of her hair.
Before the events of the main story, Curran had a naive, curious, and trusting personality. This trait was taken advantage of by people she considered to be her allies. Her previous adventuring party used her as monster bait, deliberately abandoning her during a mission. In the process, they stole a treasure and, more significantly, an item that was precious to her. This event of deep betrayal shattered her faith in others, making it very difficult for her to trust anyone afterward. As a result, the Curran seen at the beginning of the series is defensive, quick to anger, and quick to assume the worst intentions in others. For instance, she immediately became aggressive and suspicious when a spell from her teammate Tiana was accidentally misdirected toward her, believing it to be an intentional attack. Despite her tough exterior, a part of her remains hungry for connection, and she is slowly learning to open up again with the help of her new companions. Another notable personality quirk is her love for food, as she is often presented as a glutton.
Curran’s primary motivation is not as lofty as saving the world, at least initially. She is driven by the need to cope with the pain of her past betrayal and to find a new group where she can belong. She joins the party because, like the others, she is disillusioned and in need of funds. The group decides to pool their resources to support their respective hobbies as a way to find personal fulfillment after being hurt by others. For Curran, a significant motivation is also tied to the precious item that was stolen from her by her former party. Recovering or coming to terms with the loss of this item, which is connected to her past, is a personal goal that surfaces as her story develops.
In the story, Curran is one of the four protagonists who meet by chance in a tavern, each sharing tales of betrayal that led to their cynical outlooks. Realizing they share similar circumstances and a critical lack of money, they decide to form an adventuring party, which they later name the Survivors. Curran acts as the party’s frontline physical fighter, using her draconic strength and a two-handed sword to engage enemies directly. Her role in the group dynamic is often that of the hot-headed but powerful combatant who contrasts with more strategic or cautious members. Learning to function as a team is a major challenge for the Survivors, as their mutual distrust hampers their coordination in battle.
Key relationships in Curran’s life include her three main party members. Her relationship with Nick, the swordsman who becomes the party’s de facto leader, is particularly significant. Early on, Nick accidentally damages her precious pendant, which he then tries to repair to make amends, serving as a catalyst for exploring Curran’s past. Through interactions like this, Nick becomes one of the figures who helps her begin to trust again. With Tiana, the mage, Curran initially has friction, as seen in the incident with the misdirected spell. However, these two must learn to overcome their suspicions to combine magical and physical attacks effectively. With Zem, the priest, she forms part of the core four who share a bond of mutual disillusionment. Her past also involves her unnamed father, who appears in the series, and the members of her previous party who betrayed her, though these relationships are defined by their negative impact on her.
Over the course of the story, Curran undergoes noticeable development. The central arc of her character involves moving from a state of total distrust and defensive aggression to cautiously opening herself up to the possibility of camaraderie and reliance. The incident with her pendant and the subsequent revelation of her past are key moments in this development. Through the shared adventures and the slow, often difficult process of working together with Nick, Tiana, and Zem, she begins to heal from the wounds of her past betrayal. She starts to see that not everyone will exploit her trust, allowing her to become a more reliable and integrated member of the Survivors.
Curran possesses notable abilities that stem from her draconic heritage. She has the divine protection of the fire dragon, which grants her several powerful skills. Her most prominent ability is her fire breath, which she can control to release a continuous stream of fire or shoot separate fireballs. In addition to her magical-like breath attack, she is a capable warrior who employs two-handed sword techniques in close combat. This combination of physical strength and draconic fire power makes her a formidable asset in battle.
