Description
Nick is the main protagonist of the anime series. He began as a veteran adventurer who had dedicated himself to raising the rank of his former party, Survivors of the Strongest, and looked up to his party leader as a father figure. However, he was falsely accused of embezzlement by a jealous teammate and summarily expelled from the party. Shortly afterward, his girlfriend broke up with him, compounding his sense of betrayal. These experiences shattered his trust in people and left him directionless. To cope, he threw himself into an otaku lifestyle centered on the teen idol Agate, spending his remaining funds on merchandise. To sustain that hobby, he returned to adventuring but needed a new party. One night in a tavern, he happened to share a table with three other disillusioned strangers: the mage Tiana, the ex-priest Zem, and the half-dragon Curran. After each recounted a story of betrayal, they recognized a common thread of deep distrust and formed a new party, later known as the Survivors, motivated by a shared need to earn money and a growing sense of purpose.

Nick’s personality is marked by cynicism and caution born from his past. He is highly suspicious of others’ intentions and often assumes the worst, but he is also pragmatic and level-headed. He possesses sharp intelligence and strategic thinking, qualities that his former party considered a liability and used as a reason to eject him, saying he was too smart to be an adventurer. Despite his distrust, he has a resilient sense of responsibility and gradually opens up to his new companions. His primary motivation at first is financial survival and the pursuit of his idol obsession, but as the story progresses, he becomes committed to protecting his party and, eventually, to confronting the systemic corruption that led to their betrayals.

As the leader of the Survivors, Nick fills the role of a front-line combatant and scout. He is classified as a Light Warrior and a Scout, using his experience to support the vanguard and navigate labyrinths. His extensive knowledge of the world and dungeons makes him the party’s most practical member, often devising tactical plans. His abilities are grounded in his veteran status—he is a skilled swordsman and a perceptive strategist, though he is not the strongest in raw power compared to his teammates.

Key relationships define his arc. With Tiana, Zem, and Curran, he forms a bond built on mutual understanding of betrayal. Their shared distrust initially makes cooperation awkward, but as they repeatedly rely on each other in life‑or‑death situations, genuine trust grows. He retains a fraught dynamic with his former mentor Argus, who expelled him, and his ex‑girlfriend Claudine, whose rejection added to his disillusionment. Over the course of the series, Nick evolves from a bitter individual focused only on his own coping mechanisms into a leader who values his party and is willing to believe in them, even if he cannot fully trust the wider world. His growth is tied to learning that not every relationship will end in betrayal and that his cleverness can be used to help others rather than solely to protect himself. Notable abilities include his combat experience, dungeon‑crawling expertise, and a knack for reading situations that allow him to adapt quickly in battle.
