Description
Dott. Seido Hishigata is the director of the Hishigata Clinic, the sole medical facility on Hitogashima Island, and the father of Sou and Tokiko Hishigata. He is a middle-aged man with short gray hair and glasses. His name, Seido, means bronze, which fits with the naming theme of his family.

Driven by a desperate desire to save his terminally ill wife, Chitose, Hishigata made a fateful bargain with the shadows. He agreed to turn Chitose into a shadow and to secretly provide the corpses of his patients as sustenance for Haine, the mother of all shadows. His ultimate goal was a form of eternal life for his entire family, believing that after Haine consumed her final meal, Chitose would be restored and the Hishigatas would join her as shadows in her world.

The Hishigata family has been serving the shadows for over three centuries, with Seido continuing this dark tradition. He kept these dealings secret from his son, Sou, believing the burden was too heavy for him, and instead selected his daughter, Tokiko, to be the family's successor. This commitment led him to commit terrible acts, including providing the bodies of Shinpei Ajiro's parents, who were killed by the shadow Shide to prevent their discovery of a secret cave.

In the story, Seido acts as a key, initially antagonistic, figure whose clinic hides a secret passage to the cave where Haine resides. He is seen coordinating with the shadows, for instance, instructing an ally to deliver a policeman's body as food. However, during a key time loop, the shadows deem him expendable and send his wife's shadow to strangle him. He is rescued and revived by Sou and Tokiko, but he reacts with violent rage, disarming his son and shooting Tokiko (who is later revealed to be a shadow in disguise) in an attempt to prove his loyalty to Haine.

Upon learning of the shadows' betrayal and their plan to abandon his family, Seido is broken and finally decides to cooperate. He reveals crucial information: the location of a safe containing a list of patients he had fed to Haine, Chitose's true date of death from heart failure (revealing that her survival was a lie), and the identity of Shide as Shidehiko Hishigata, the founder of the clinic and Haine's first shadow child. Seido also confesses that he had preserved Chitose's ashes, unable to give her actual body to Haine as food.

Throughout the time loops, Seido exhibits a notable ability: he is immune to being copied by the shadows, a result of having been scanned previously. This immunity prevents Shadow Mio from accessing his memories, making him a valuable, albeit reluctant, source of information. His character arc is one of a desperate man whose selfish love and misguided loyalty lead him to become a tool for the antagonists, culminating in a shattered realization of his errors and a final, crucial act of providing the heroes with the knowledge they need to fight back.
