Description
Crowsade Laia is a character from the anime Megaton Musashi, serving as a primary antagonist in the story. She is the queen of the Draktur, an alien race that invades Earth with superior scientific power, and is the mother of the central character Arshem Laia. Crowsade is a figure of immense authority and ruthlessness, embodying the cold and calculating will of her empire.
In terms of personality, Crowsade is described as cruel, cold-blooded, and ruthless. She views even those closest to her, including her trusted subordinates and her own daughter, merely as pawns to be used for her goals. Those who become useless or dare to defy her are discarded without mercy. This uncompromising nature drives her to order the invasion and extermination of humanity. When her daughter or subordinates suggest alternatives like negotiation, she dismisses them, stating that any other course would be an insult to the pride of their race, the Sidor (the true name of the Draktur). However, her actions are portrayed as a desperate, albeit extreme, measure for the survival of her species. While inherently villainous in execution, her motivations are rooted in the difficult calculus of preserving her own people, a nuance that her daughter Arshem comes to understand even if she does not agree with the methods.
Crowsade Laia’s role in the story is that of the primary orchestrator of Earth’s misery. She issues the initial orders to exterminate the Rogue pilots, sending her daughter on missions to eliminate the human resistance. Her actions inadvertently set the stage for the central conflict, as her relentless demands eventually cause her authority to crumble. She labels Arshem a traitor and moves to have her killed, but before she can act, her subordinate Gryphas Creed stages a coup d'état, deposing her as queen and imprisoning her for having lost the pride of the Sidor.
The character undergoes significant development following her deposition. Freed from imprisonment by her retainer Demille, she finds herself stranded in the city of Solon, where she reunites with Arshem. Witnessing her daughter’s determined struggle to live, she recognizes genuine qualities of leadership and kingship in her. This revelation marks a turning point. She later saves a human, Vict Eiger, and upon hearing his will to live, sees a reflection of her former self. She heals his severe injuries and then joins forces with her daughter and the others to form the White Knights, a faction dedicated to protecting Earth from the rogue Draktur faction led by Dicsenberg. In her final moments, she makes the ultimate sacrifice. To protect the Earth from destruction, she entrusts the future to Arshem and steers the White Knights' mothership, the White Rose, into the enemy weapon Amenomurakumo, dying a heroic death. In stark contrast to the cold visage she wore as an invader, her face at the moment of death is described as peaceful and gentle, reminiscent of her original personality before her planet was lost.
Crowsade possesses several notable abilities that reflect her status as queen. Her combat prowess is displayed on several occasions, effortlessly intimidating a weapon-wielding Mysis with sheer presence and using psychokinesis to slam the transformed Yugura into a wall, forcing her to revert to normal, all while unarmed herself. Furthermore, she demonstrates powerful regenerative abilities, capable of regrowing severed arms and healing injuries as severe as cracked bones.
