TV-Series
Description
Ignacio Martinez, known as Chief, is a character who appears in the early episodes of the second season. He is a professional Megaloboxer whose career is primarily relegated to the lower-ranked rings and underground matches.

Chief is the de facto leader of a tight-knit community of immigrants known as the Casa. Warm, sociable, and kind-hearted, his rough exterior and initial cockiness belie a deeply good-natured and strong individual. He is a charismatic figure who is well-liked and respected, having earned his nickname by becoming a natural leader and pillar of support for the people in his community.

His primary motivation stems from a profound sense of responsibility towards his fellow immigrants. For years, he fought in rigged matches, deliberately losing bouts to earn money for the Casa. His ultimate goal is to buy the piece of land the community has made its home, a place they call mi casa es tu casa. This dream is not just about ownership but about providing stability and a future for the people who rely on him.

Chief's role in the story is as a catalyst for the protagonist, Joe, also known as Nomad. Having endured immense personal tragedy, including the death of his wife and the loss of his son during their journey to a new country, Chief recognizes the same pain and self-destruction in Joe. He understands Joe's suffering because he has lived through a similar darkness. Their relationship is reciprocal and transformative. Chief helps Joe fight his addiction to alcohol and painkillers, while Joe agrees to help Chief train for a major Megalobox championship, the prize money from which would secure the land for the Casa. Through this mutual aid, Chief provides Joe with a sense of purpose and a family, eventually extracting a promise from Joe to confront his own past demons.

Chief is a man shaped by loss and hard work. His development is seen in his unyielding resilience; despite losing his family, he stood up for his people without bitterness, continuing to smile and fight for their future. This resolve culminates in his final tournament, where he endures racism, discrimination, and a brutally unfair opponent who uses illegal blows. With Joe in his corner, he overcomes these obstacles to win the championship. After achieving his dream and celebrating with his community, Chief passes away peacefully in his sleep, having finally been reunited with his family in spirit.

In the ring, Chief is a formidable boxer with a powerfully built upper body. His boxing gear is adorned with the symbol of a hummingbird, which he and his son made together. Outside of combat, he is often seen wearing rectangular glasses for reading or carving. Having spent much of his career in fixed fights, he has developed a reputation for his acting skills, but his genuine desire is to fight with honor and for the dream he shares with his community.
