Description
Himiko, whose full name is Jōmon Himiko, is a character introduced in the Duel Masters King! anime and its sequel, Duel Masters King MAX. She is a prominent member of the Five Gattles, a group where she is known as Gattle 2. She has a distinctive appearance, often wearing a decorative piece resembling earthenware pottery on her head and riding into action on a haniwa, a traditional clay figure.
On the surface, Himiko presents a very sharp and aggressive personality. She is known for being cranky and crass-mouthed toward most people, displaying a strong-willed and dominant attitude. She has a habit of using historical terms and references as examples in her speech, which underscores her surprisingly deep knowledge of the history of the Creature World. However, this harsh exterior is not her entire character. She demonstrates genuine politeness and respect toward her leader, Jendle, and her close ally, Hyde. Beneath her tough demeanor, she also shows a more typical girlish side, such as wanting to keep a pet or becoming genuinely happy when faced with cute things, revealing there is more to her than just her cruel streak. Physically, she is a teenage girl, standing 151 centimeters tall during the events of King! and growing to 160 centimeters in King MAX.
Her motivations and role in the story are deeply rooted in a complicated past. She and Hyde were classmates of Abaku Onifuda. In a tragic incident fueled by Hyde's spite, their decks were swapped, causing Abaku to lose control and decimate his own town in a fit of rage. This event shapes much of her subsequent guilt and actions. During the King! season, she loyally serves under Jendle. In the sequel, King MAX, she leaves the Five Gattles alongside Hyde to ally themselves with Abaku, driven by a sense of responsibility for past wrongs. It is revealed that her betrayal of Abaku long ago was not born of malice but from a coercive ultimatum by Jendle, who claimed Abaku's dangerous lineage meant he had to be eliminated or driven out for everyone's safety. Contrary to appearing as a simple traitor, she had actually enjoyed her time with Abaku and betrayed him only to protect him. Overcome with guilt, she eventually apologizes to the protagonist, Joe Kirifuda, and begs him to save Abaku after he is possessed by the demonic spear. By the end of King MAX, she reconciles with Abaku and the other main characters.
Regarding abilities, Himiko possesses a unique and notable power unrelated to card duels. She is capable of a form of mind control where she uses harsh insults and verbal abuse to break down a person's mental defenses, then follows up by speaking gentle words to bring them under her control. The effects of this power can be nullified by inflicting a physical shock on the victim, who then loses all memory of the time they were controlled.
In the game of Duel Masters itself, Himiko is a formidable player whose strategies change between series. In Duel Masters King!, she uses a deck that combines the Water, Darkness, and Nature civilizations, focusing on Sutured Dispectors. Her signature cards from this period include Dolgepain, Sutured Evil Strike, and Amodegoras, Sutured Devil Element. Her overall record in this season is one win against an opponent named Cap and one loss to Bolts. Transitioning into Duel Masters King MAX, her strategy shifts dramatically. She abandons her previous multi-civilization deck to use a mono-Nature deck based on the Demonio race. Her new ace cards become Evenomikoto and the more powerful EVE-Ogre MAX. However, her win-loss record in this season does not improve, as she suffers two losses, one to Joe Kirifuda and another in a rematch against Bolts.
