Description
Alexei Barnes Alderp, often referred to simply as Lord Alderp, is a significant antagonist in the third season of KonoSuba. He is a former noble who served as the corrupt governor of the town of Axel and its surrounding territories. Alderp is a middle-aged man of tall stature and notably obese build. His appearance is ostentatious and theatrical, characterized by flamboyant clothing in red and blue adorned with golden stripes, complemented by white gloves. One of his most distinctive features is his long blonde wig and matching blonde mustache, which contribute to his haughty and self-important demeanor.

In terms of personality, Alderp is the embodiment of a greedy, selfish, and utterly corrupt noble. His cunning, perverseness, and luck are said to be on par with, or perhaps even exceed, those of the protagonist Kazuma Satou. In many respects, he functions as an evil counterpart to Kazuma, as he is completely willing to betray or disregard allies and friends for his own benefit. Alderp is entirely without principles and regularly employs foul play, manipulation, and his political authority to achieve his goals. He is known to have forcibly married women he desired, only to divorce them when he grew bored, a crime he avoided facing due to his supernatural influence over others' memories.

Alderp's primary motivation throughout the story is his obsessive infatuation with the noble crusader Darkness, whose real name is Dustiness Ford Lalatina. He has been fixated on her since she was a child, repeatedly proposing marriage and being rejected due to their significant age gap. Beyond this personal obsession, he is driven by a desire for power, wealth, and the ability to commit crimes with impunity. He believes he has risen to power on his own merit, but in reality, his success is almost entirely dependent on the use of forbidden magical artifacts and a demon he controls.

Alderp plays a central antagonistic role, acting as the primary obstacle for Kazuma's party, particularly Darkness. His schemes come to the forefront following the destruction of his mansion by a magical core that Kazuma had teleported away. Seeking revenge, Alderp uses his influence and the powers of his demon servant, Maxwell, to rig a trial against Kazuma, nearly getting him executed. This trial is suspended when Darkness agrees to a request from Alderp, putting her in his debt. His broader plan involves financially ruining the Dustiness family to force Darkness into a marriage with him. To this end, he uses Maxwell to place a powerful curse on Darkness's father, Ignis, and manipulates the family's debts.

The most significant relationship in Alderp's life is his obsession with Darkness, whom he views as a prize to be owned. His other key relationship is with the devil Maxwell, whom he summoned using a divine relic. Maxwell possesses the power to alter memories and manipulate minds, which Alderp uses to cover up his crimes and influence events in his favor. Alderp also has an adopted son, Alexei Barnes Walther, who is a polite, hardworking, and morally upright young man, serving as a complete foil to his father. Alderp intended to use Walther as a vessel, planning to swap bodies with him via another divine relic to become young and attractive for his marriage to Darkness.

Throughout his development, Alderp is portrayed as a villain who seems untouchable due to his political power and magical assets. However, his downfall is triggered when the demon Vanir intervenes. As Alderp's forced wedding to Darkness is about to conclude, Kazuma and his party rescue Darkness by paying off her family's debt. Following this, Vanir tricks Alderp into breaking his contract with Maxwell. The cancellation forces Alderp to pay the price he had long deferred: experiencing years of despair and suffering in an instant. With his contract voided, his crimes are exposed, he is stripped of his wealth and title, and Maxwell drags him to Hell. Officially, he is reported only as having "disappeared".

Alderp's notable abilities do not stem from personal combat strength or magic but from his possession of two powerful divine relics. The first relic allows him to summon random monsters, which he used to bring forth and bind the devil Maxwell to his service. The second, and most dangerous, relic is one that allows him to swap bodies with another person. Through Maxwell, Alderp can effectively manipulate memories and influence the minds of others, a power he uses to control judges, erase the memories of his former wives, and hide all evidence of his corruption.
