Description
The first princess of the Kingdom of Belzerg is a young girl named Iris Stylish-Sword Belzerg, known simply as Iris. Her full name reflects her royal lineage, and she was born on September 6th. As a member of a royal family that has historically incorporated heroes into its bloodline, Iris possesses innate abilities that are exceptional even by the standards of her world.

In terms of her background, Iris has been raised within the sheltered environment of the royal castle. Her strict upbringing has granted her knowledge, refinement, and a dignified demeanor befitting her station, but it has also left her profoundly naive about the outside world. With her father and brother often away on the battlefield, and no suitable playmates of her age and status within the court, her life has been quite lonely. This isolation has fostered a deep curiosity about common life and a strong desire for genuine friendship.

Her personality is a study in contrasts. On the surface, Iris presents the perfect image of royalty: she is polite, responsible, diligent in her duties, and always treats others with respect, restraining herself so as not to be a bother to those around her. She is also incredibly obedient and enjoys being praised for her good behavior. However, beneath this composed exterior lies a kind, cheerful, and surprisingly tomboyish child with an adventurous spirit. Her innocence also makes her highly impressionable, and she often picks up words, tricks, and behaviors from those she trusts, most notably Kazuma Satou. Due to being spoiled by her father, who gives her a portion of the national treasury as an allowance, she has little to no concept of money's value, often spending vast sums on simple items without a second thought.

Iris’s primary motivation is to escape the confines of her gilded cage. She craves the simple pleasures of commoner life, from ordinary food to thrilling adventures, which are forbidden to her as a princess. This desire is so strong that she frequently sneaks out of the castle to explore the city and meet with friends, or adopts undercover identities like Illis or Irene to move among common folk. Her fascination with the adventurer Kazuma is rooted in his tales of the outside world and the fact that he is the only person to treat her like an ordinary girl rather than a princess.

Iris serves as a major supporting character, playing a pivotal role in the story's sixth volume and the third season of the anime. She initially summons Kazuma and his party to the castle to hear the stories of their exploits. While she initially dislikes and underestimates him for his boastful claims, her opinion changes dramatically when Darkness confirms his tales are true. Becoming fascinated by his honest and unpretentious nature, she teleports him to the royal castle and effectively recruits him as her companion and playmate.

Her most significant relationship is, without question, with Kazuma. She comes to see him as the older brother she never had, affectionately calling him "onii-chan". For his part, Kazuma, who has always wanted a little sister, adores this dynamic. They develop a genuine, wholesome bond, with Iris finding in him a friend, a confidant, and a window to a world she has never known. However, this relationship deepens into romantic feelings on her part, particularly after he saves her from a conspiracy. An incident where Kazuma unintentionally steals a special betrothal ring from her using his Steal ability further complicates their connection, as by royal custom, the bearer of that ring is destined to marry royalty. Iris keeps this a secret, hoping that Kazuma will one day defeat the Demon King, a feat that would also make him her fiancé by royal decree. Her other key relationships are with her two bodyguards, Claire and Rain, who are fiercely protective of her and initially distrustful of Kazuma's influence.

Throughout her time with Kazuma, Iris undergoes noticeable development. She begins as a cold, controlled, and proper princess, but her interactions with him allow her to shed this formal facade and reveal her true, cheerful, and mischievous self. She becomes more confident and resourceful, even adopting some of Kazuma's own cunning and underhanded tactics. She evolves from a lonely, isolated figure into a more worldly and determined individual, even expressing a desire to become an adventurer herself.

Despite her young age and innocent appearance, Iris is a formidable combatant. Thanks to the powerful heroes her family has married over generations, she possesses skills on par with the "cheats" given to reincarnated Japanese adventurers. She has an exceptionally high level, estimated to be around 60, a result of both intense martial arts training from a young age and consuming rare, stat-boosting foods. As the holder of the royal family's legendary holy sword, she can unleash powerful unique techniques such as Exterion, a glowing slash capable of cleaving targets in two; Sacred Lightning Blare, which summons a bolt of white lightning to devastate groups of enemies like golems; and her ultimate strike, Sacred Explode, a blast of blinding light powerful enough to envelop an entire mountain, which was created using Explosion Magic as a reference.
