TV-Series
Description
Kanade Hisaishi is a student at Kitauji High School who is one year below Kumiko Oumae and plays the euphonium in the school's concert band. She first joins the band as a first-year student and continues as an active member in her second year.

In terms of appearance, Kanade is short and fair-skinned with distinctive cherry-red eyes. She has black hair styled in a bob with straight bangs that cover her forehead, and she decorates her hair with a small red ribbon on the left side. Her height is approximately 153 centimeters, and her birthday is January 7.

At first glance, Kanade presents a courteous and polite personality with great communication skills, which helps her make a favorable impression on nearly everyone she meets. She is adept at using honorific language and knows how to interact appropriately with seniors and peers alike. However, this polished exterior conceals a much more complex inner nature. Kumiko Oumae describes her as having a hypocritical courtesy, someone who is superficially polite but with an undercurrent of rudeness or hidden intent. Kanade can be sharp-tongued and is known to make pointed, sarcastic remarks that deliberately poke at sensitive topics. Her personality is often compared to that of a cat, both in her sometimes aloof and calculating demeanor and in her ability to suddenly show warmth and affection. She enjoys watching plays, gathering information, taking selfies, and has a particular fondness for apple shapes and strawberry flavors.

The core of Kanade's character and motivations are shaped by a traumatic experience during her second year of middle school. At that time, she was a skilled euphonium player who was passed over for a competition slot in favor of a senior student who practiced diligently but was less technically proficient. Her band ultimately won only a silver medal, and Kanade was blamed for the outcome, with onlookers suggesting the senior should have been chosen instead. This incident left her with a deep-seated fear of being hated by her peers and seniors for outperforming them. Consequently, her primary motivation upon joining Kitauji is self-protection. She is determined not to repeat the painful experience of being resented, so she initially plans to deliberately underperform during auditions to avoid displacing a beloved senior like Natsuki Nakagawa.

In the story, Kanade serves as a junior and a fellow euphonium player who often seeks guidance from Kumiko. She quickly becomes a significant figure in the bass section, though her relationships are complex. Her dynamic with Kumiko Oumae is central. Kanade initially tests Kumiko, probing her character and seeing her as potentially weak, but she gradually comes to respect Kumiko as a trustworthy mentor and leader. With her senior Natsuki Nakagawa, Kanade initially feels uncomfortable because she perceives Natsuki's musical skills as inferior, which forces her to confront her trauma. She keeps her distance and behaves disrespectfully to avoid the guilt of potentially taking Natsuki's place. This conflict comes to a head when Kumiko forces a confrontation, leading Kanade to confess her fear of being hated. After this emotional breakdown, she accepts Natsuki's kindness and the two develop a warmer, more genuine friendship. When a new transfer student, Mayu Kuroe, joins the euphonium section, Kanade is wary and openly critical of Mayu’s indirect communication style and reluctance to compete aggressively, seeing her as a potential threat to Kumiko's position.

Kanade undergoes significant development, moving from a state of guarded cynicism to one of trust and integration. Her key turning point is the audition where she tries to fail on purpose. After Kumiko intervenes and reassures her that her talent should not be wasted and that the band does not hold her competence against her, Kanade learns to compete earnestly, securing her spot in the competition. She later becomes one of Kumiko's most loyal supporters in the band and matures into a reliable senior for newer members like Kaho Hariya.

Kanade possesses several notable abilities. Her primary talent is her skill as a euphonium player, which is considerable enough that she could easily outplay seniors like Natsuki. Beyond her musical ability, her sharp intelligence and perceptiveness are her most defining traits. She has a keen ability to read the room, understand the unspoken expectations of those around her, and see through the facades of others, including Mayu Kuroe and even Kumiko at times. This keen sense of social dynamics, born from her past trauma, allows her to manipulate situations to her advantage, though she eventually uses this ability to support the band's success rather than just protect herself.
