Description
Masha is a small, pink, round robot created by Ryou Shirogane and Keiichiro Akasaka as part of the Mew Project. Originally designated by the model number R2000, the character was given the name Masha by Ichigo Momomiya, who named it after her crush Masaya Aoyama. Masha has a round furry pink body with pink cat ears, red wings, a red fluffy tail, and large pink eyes, and it always appears to be blushing. It is small enough to be held in one hand. Masha was built with the specific functions of detecting Chimera Anima and sensing Mew Aqua, the pure water substance that holds great power. In battle, Masha serves as a support unit; after the Mew Mews defeat a Chimera Anima, Masha consumes the jellyfish-like parasites that emerge from the infected host. It can also merge with collected Mew Aqua to transform into the Mew Aqua Rod, which enables the Mew Mews to perform the healing attack Ribbon Aqua Drops. Masha’s communication is extremely limited, primarily consisting of the sounds pi and tweet, though it occasionally manages short phrases. The robot is deeply protective of Ichigo and enjoys being with her, and it often tries to assist the Mew Mews during fights, though its efforts are frequently unsuccessful. After the alien threat is resolved, Masha chooses to remain with Ichigo when she moves to London with Masaya. Masha’s development is marked by its transition from a mere tool designated R2000 to an individual who bonds with Ichigo and demonstrates loyalty and attachment. Within the story, Masha acts as a supporting mascot and communication link between the Mew Mews and the human creators Ryou and Keiichiro. Its key relationship is with Ichigo, who gave it its name and whom it steadfastly follows. Masha also appears in the earlier conceptual story Tokyo Black Cat Girl, where it is a very different character—an intergalactic police officer—but in the context of Tokyo Mew Mew New, it remains a dedicated robotic companion with detection and purification abilities.
