Description
Lawine is a third-class mage who appears during the First-Class Mage Exam in the magic metropolis of Oisast, also referred to as Äußerst. She comes from a noble family and has the refined appearance of a young lady, with long hair and a composed bearing, but her manner of speaking is unexpectedly rough and assertive, often resembling that of a tough boy rather than an aristocrat. She arrives at the exam together with Kanne, a close friend and fellow mage with whom she studied at the Magic Academy. Kanne is the only person who calls her by the nickname Winne.
Lawine specializes in ice manipulation magic, which allows her to freeze vast quantities of water. Her ability is particularly effective when combined with Kanne’s water magic, making the pair a dangerous team. During the first stage of the exam, she forms the second party alongside Kanne and the protagonist Frieren. Lawine is usually calm and collected, but she can be overly rational and cold in her judgments. She occasionally teases or bullies Kanne, though their bond remains strong throughout the exam.
Her motivation for participating in the exam is to become stronger and advance her standing as a mage. She demonstrates notable skill in mana detection, as she is able to sense the suppressed mana of Frieren and identify approaching threats. Lawine’s role in the story is that of a supporting character who, together with Kanne, highlights the teamwork and strategic use of elemental magic required in the exam. She shows little personal development beyond her cooperation with Kanne and her respect for Frieren’s power, but her composed demeanor and practical, no‑nonsense attitude make her a reliable ally during the trials.
