Description
Draht is a demon who serves as a supporting antagonist. He is a subordinate to Lügner and, by extension, Aura the Guillotine, a powerful servant of the Demon King. His name is the German word for "wire," which directly relates to his primary form of attack.

In terms of background, Draht, along with his fellow demon Linie, is sent by Lügner to infiltrate the domain of Graf Granat. Their mission is a deceptive one, as they pose as "Messengers of Peace" from Lady Aura. Their true goal is to negotiate or coerce the Graf into lowering the ancient magical barrier that protects his city from demons, thereby paving the way for Aura’s invasion.

Draht has a very straightforward and cruel personality, which is typical of demons who lack human emotions and empathy. He is characterized by an extreme overconfidence in his own magical abilities, a trait that leads him to act recklessly and without caution. This overconfidence is coupled with a significant lack of real combat experience, especially against opponents of a higher caliber. His arrogance blinds him to the true threat that powerful mages pose, causing him to underestimate his enemies. He is also impulsive, choosing to act on his own initiative rather than adhering to Lügner’s carefully laid plan of deception.

Draht’s primary motivation is simply to serve his master’s cause and eliminate what he perceives as a threat to their mission. Upon realizing that Frieren, a mage imprisoned in the Graf’s dungeons, is a potential obstacle, he acts on his own to assassinate her. He believes that by killing her, he will secure the mission’s success and demonstrate his own power.

In the story, Draht’s role is brief but impactful. He is part of the demon delegation sent to Graf Granat’s city. His most significant action is his solo attempt to kill Frieren in her cell. He first murders a guard to gain entry, then confronts Frieren, using his wire magic to try and decapitate her. This encounter serves as a clear demonstration of Frieren’s immense power and the vast gulf in experience between her and the current generation of demons. His impulsive attack fails disastrously, leading directly to his own death and undermining the demons’ diplomatic cover, forcing Lügner to resort to open violence to achieve his objectives.

Key relationships define Draht’s position. He is a loyal subordinate to Lügner, who acts as the leader of the trio, and a servant of the greater demon Aura the Guillotine. He operates alongside Linie, his fellow "executioner," and they work together during the infiltration. His most critical relationship, however, is with Frieren, the elven mage he views as a simple target. This encounter becomes his last, as he fails to comprehend her true strength until it is far too late.

Draht undergoes no real development, serving as a static character whose overconfidence leads to a swift and brutal downfall. He is a classic example of a young, powerful demon who has never faced a truly dangerous opponent. Frieren notes his inexperience and naivety in battle, and he is completely unprepared for her speed and skill. In his final moments, his arrogance shatters, and he desperately tries to beg for his life, but Frieren kills him without hesitation.

Draht’s notable abilities center entirely on his unique magic, which involves creating and manipulating highly sharp wires made of pure mana. He can summon these wires from his fingertips and use them to quickly and efficiently decapitate human targets. He boasts that his wire magic is among the strongest spells of demonkind and is believed by him to be impervious to human magic. The wires are incredibly thin and sharp, capable of cutting through flesh with ease and posing a challenge for even a skilled mage to break. Despite its lethality against ordinary humans, his magic proves entirely ineffective against a mage of Frieren’s caliber, who can counter it with her mana and negate it with precise, powerful attacks.
