Description
Kageyuki Shiraishi is a 29-year-old active-duty police officer who serves as a profiler in the Scientific Crime Investigation Laboratory (Crime Lab). In response to the X-Day Incident, he is appointed as the director of a specially established mobile investigation support unit.

Shiraishi is a tall figure at 186cm, with an appearance that complements his enigmatic nature. His most defining characteristic is the perpetual smile he wears, an expression that makes his true thoughts and intentions impossible to discern. He considers the observation of human beings to be his hobby, and whenever he has a spare moment, he analyzes the people around him, often mocking or teasing them for his own amusement. This fascination with human subjects, particularly their emotions and interactions, seems to override conventional concerns about morality. His behavior is frequently described as eccentric and pragmatic, and he is known to quickly lose interest in individuals he deems boring.

The character's background is shrouded in mystery and tragedy. Shiraishi was originally a member of the terrorist organization Adonis, designated with the number 14, before he escaped from the group. His childhood was spent in an institution or setting characterized by strict discipline and rigor, where he was required to succeed despite never receiving praise or acknowledgment for his efforts. This environment left him with a skewed understanding of social norms and basic human emotions. He has a deep affection for cats and is often seen in their company, and he has forgotten personal details such as his birthday and blood type.

In the story, Shiraishi is the individual who delivers the X-Day warning letter to the detective agency. From the moment he meets the protagonist, Ichika Hoshino, he displays an intense and unusual interest in the poisoned collar locked around her neck. His primary motivation is driven by a shift in his own expectations of the X-Day plan; when the actual events began to deviate from his original calculations while he was still a member of Adonis, he decided to intervene and prevent the incidents from occurring as planned.

Shiraishi maintains a complex set of key relationships. He collaborates with the members of a private investigation firm, including his partner and eventual love interest, Hoshino, as well as colleagues Mineo Enomoto, Takeru Sasazuka, Aiji Yanagi, and Kei Okazaki. His relationship with Hoshino is particularly significant, as she serves as the catalyst for his emotional development. Through her direct and persistent interactions, she helps him navigate his confusion about love and sincerity, effectively teaching him how to become a more complete person by understanding his own emotions.

Throughout his route, Shiraishi undergoes substantial development. As an undercover operative still connected to his past, he is initially put in a position to get close to Hoshino under false pretenses. However, he finds himself genuinely falling in love with her, an unfamiliar experience that causes him significant internal conflict, leading him to oscillate between affection and cold dismissal. This struggle culminates in his decision to betray Adonis entirely to protect Hoshino, even if it means resorting to morally questionable methods he had previously promised to avoid. His journey focuses on his transition from a hollow tool trained for a purpose into a person capable of authentic emotional connection.

Shiraishi possesses notable abilities as a specialist in criminal profiling and analysis, which he applies to the investigations into the X-Day events. His expertise lies in understanding human psychology and predicting behavior, skills that proved invaluable to Adonis and later to the police. He is highly intelligent and perceptive, using his analytical skills both professionally and as a means of social interaction.
