Description
Allen Crawford is the male protagonist of the story, a powerful wizard in his early twenties known to the world as the Demon Lord or Dark Lord. He is a slim young man with a striking appearance, characterized by his unique half-white and half-black hair and piercing blood-red irises. Often seen wearing a ragged hood, his distinct look makes him stand out wherever he goes.

Allen’s personality is defined by a sharp contrast between his public persona and his true nature. He is a self-proclaimed misanthrope who has chosen to live as a hermit in a deep forest, having grown weary of society. He often speaks in a loud, arrogant, and intimidating manner, leaning into his fearsome reputation as the Demon Lord. However, this menacing exterior hides a fundamentally kind and caring heart. Beneath his gruff words, he is a soft-hearted individual who cannot ignore the suffering of others, even if he pretends otherwise. Despite his genius-level intelligence and magical prowess, he is notably awkward and clumsy when it comes to matters of the heart and daily life, often missing social cues and being oblivious to his own romantic feelings. He is also firmly against holding any official titles or positions of authority, refusing to take over as chairman of the prestigious Athena Magic Academy, a position held by his adoptive father, as he sees such roles as a hassle.

Allen’s motivations are deeply rooted in his past experiences of betrayal. Before becoming a hermit, he was an adventurer who was part of a party he considered his companions. During a mission, his party betrayed him, breaking the seal of a temple and leaving him for dead in front of a horde of monsters. This traumatic event left him with a deep-seated distrust of others and a profound understanding of what it feels like to be wronged. When he discovers Charlotte Evans, a young noblewoman who has been falsely accused of crimes, had her engagement annulled, and was exiled from her kingdom, her story triggers his own memories of agony. His primary motivation becomes twofold: first, to give Charlotte the freedom and happiness she was denied, and second, to get back at the world that has wronged them both. He decides to take her in and teach her all the "naughty" things in life—indulging in pleasures, vices, and asserting one's own will—as an act of rebellion and a form of healing for them both.

In the story, Allen serves as Charlotte’s protector, mentor, and eventual love interest. His role is to guide her from a life of servitude and abuse into one of confidence and self-determination. By teaching her to be "naughty," he aims to show her how to be selfish, enjoy life's simple pleasures like eating cake for dinner, and stand up for herself. He is not just a rescuer but a catalyst for Charlotte's transformation. His own arc involves slowly coming out of his self-imposed isolation, learning to trust and care for another person again, and confronting the painful memories of his past that led him to live in the forest.

His key relationships center on his household. The most significant is with Charlotte Evans, the disgraced noble lady he rescues. Their relationship begins as a master-servant dynamic, with Allen hiring her as a live-in maid, but it quickly deepens into a partnership of mutual healing. He is dedicated to her happiness, and as they live together, he becomes increasingly protective of her and their budding feelings for each other, despite his inability to recognize his own love. Another important relationship is with his younger step-sister, Eruca Crawford. She often visits him and acts as a foil to his personality, openly criticizing his lack of life skills and his "no fun" attitude. Their sibling rivalry is a source of both conflict and comedy, as she challenges him to competitions and tries to involve him in the world he has rejected.

Throughout the story, Allen undergoes a clear development. He starts as a bitter, isolated misanthrope who wants nothing to do with society. As he spends more time with Charlotte, he begins to open himself up, rediscovering a sense of purpose and connection. His lessons in "naughtiness" for Charlotte often become lessons for himself in rediscovering joy and vulnerability. He gradually transitions from a man driven by past betrayal to one motivated by a desire to protect a future he shares with Charlotte, even as he remains comically dense about his own growing affection for her.

Allen’s notable ability is his immense magical power, which is the source of his title, the Demon Lord. He is a genius wizard whose magical prowess is feared by those around him. His abilities are formidable enough to allow him to live safely as a wanted hermit, defend Charlotte from her pursuers, and confront powerful magical beasts and dangerous parties without difficulty. He also uses his magical skills for practical purposes, such as creating potions to sell to a magic shop as his source of income. Despite his power, he humorously insists on being called the "Great Demon Lord," showing a touch of pride and vanity regarding his own abilities.
