TV-Series
Description
Gyoro Gyoro is a major antagonist from the Monster Association, serving as the organization's strategic mastermind and de facto commander. Despite appearing as a single entity, Gyoro Gyoro is ultimately revealed to be a meat puppet or remote-controlled vessel, created and manipulated by the powerful esper Psykos from a hidden location deep underground. This puppet was designed to allow Psykos to manage the Monster Association's operations without revealing her true identity or placing herself in danger. Only the Monster King, Orochi, was aware of Gyoro Gyoro’s true nature as a proxy.
In appearance, Gyoro Gyoro is a large, slug-like creature with a single, prominent eye, which is colored red in the original manga and blue in the anime adaptation. It possesses a round, fat body that is typically green in the manga but pink in the anime, with four main arms and additional smaller arms protruding from its head, along with stubby legs and three-toed feet. When releasing its full power in combat, Gyoro Gyoro undergoes a dramatic transformation, growing significantly larger in size and developing numerous additional eyes across its body, along with a darker skin tone.
The personality exhibited by Gyoro Gyoro is that of a serious, calculating, and highly loyal advisor. Unlike the impulsive and often impatient monsters under his command, Gyoro Gyoro is calm, logical, and always focused on the long-term goals of the association. It speaks of Orochi with immense respect, formally addressing him as "Your Majesty," and is the only member of the association to do so. While capable of cruelty and possessing a sadistic sense of humor, as demonstrated when it toyed with the Hero Association executives before declaring war, Gyoro Gyoro also shows a pragmatic willingness to value useful subordinates, once requesting that Orochi spare the monster Do-S because her unique abilities could be advantageous in the future. It has a low tolerance for failure and sees unsuccessful monsters as mere resources to be discarded or consumed.
Within the Monster Association, Gyoro Gyoro acts as the primary strategist and executive manager. Its role is to oversee all operations, from large-scale attacks on human cities to the recruitment and evaluation of new monsters. It is responsible for assigning disaster levels to members, classifying those deemed Dragon-level as executives. Gyoro Gyoro becomes intensely interested in the human hero hunter Garou, seeing him as a potential asset. Its key relationship is with Garou, whom it attempts to cultivate, subjecting him to brutal trials and psychological manipulation to force his growth into a powerful monster, hoping to create a second being like Orochi. This interest is purely experimental and utilitarian.
One of the most significant revelations about Gyoro Gyoro is its connection to Orochi. It is explicitly stated that Gyoro Gyoro created Orochi, who was originally a human, through countless horrific experiments and sacrifices until he became the ultimate monster. This process involved forcing subjects to repeatedly experience near-death situations and overcome them to break their natural limits. This knowledge of artificial monsterfication is Gyoro Gyoro's most notable development as a character, transforming it from a simple military advisor into a key figure responsible for the association's greatest asset.
In terms of abilities, Gyoro Gyoro is a formidable psychic entity with a disaster level of Dragon. Its primary power is psychokinesis, which allows it to move objects with its mind, restrain powerful individuals like Garou, and create protective energy shields. It can manipulate gravity, and in its transformed state, it can intensify gravity by a factor of three hundred times. It can also project concentrated beams of energy capable of immense destruction. Beyond direct combat, Gyoro Gyoro possesses a range of utility abilities. It can use telepathy to communicate across distances, and it deploys numerous small flying spy drones that bear its likeness, allowing it to see events throughout the city and monitor its subordinates remotely. Its psychic senses are so refined that it can track everyone within the Monster Association's vast underground headquarters and even distinguish between living beings and machines.
Gyoro Gyoro meets its end during the Monster Association's invasion. It confronts the S-Class hero Tatsumaki, believing its psychic powers to be superior. However, Tatsumaki proves to be overwhelmingly stronger, effortlessly tearing Gyoro Gyoro's body apart despite it unleashing its full power. As it is being destroyed, Gyoro Gyoro desperately calls for Orochi to save it, but the Monster King does not come. At this moment, Tatsumaki reveals that she knows Gyoro Gyoro is merely a meat puppet that cannot feel pain and begins to extract the entity controlling it from within. However, the body she pulls out is just another decoy, and she realizes the true puppeteer, Psykos, is hiding in a fortified chamber one thousand five hundred meters underground. Thus, the creature known as Gyoro Gyoro is ultimately destroyed as a vessel, exposing the true mastermind behind the Monster Association.
