Description
Orochi, known as the Monster King, is the leader of the Monster Association and one of the principal antagonists of the Human Monster Saga. He was not born a monster. In his past, he was a human being, described as a martial arts prodigy who had turned his back on humanity and carried powerful destructive urges. Psykos, who operated through the one-eyed being Gyoro Gyoro, recognized his potential and made him the subject of experiments intended to create the ultimate life form. Forced to overcome death again and again through brutal monsterization procedures, he was reshaped into a towering, grotesque colossus whose body is made up of numerous dragon-like creatures coiled and intertwined around one another.
His personality is stern, cold, and merciless. He shows no pity toward the weak or the defeated, and he has been known to devour powerful monsters who retreated from battle without permission, which is why even elite members of the Monster Association fear him. He speaks very little and in a reserved, formal manner, in part because Gyoro Gyoro handled most of the organization's communication. He carries himself as the self-proclaimed king of all monsters and believes that only the strongest deserve to survive and grow. After discovering an ancient underground temple with a mural depicting a god that would one day return through a worthy sacrifice, he became convinced that he was destined to become that god, and he began searching for a sacrifice worthy of that purpose.
Orochi's motivations center on the destruction of the Hero Association, the eradication of humanity, and the establishment of a world ruled by monsters, with himself at its head. Within the Monster Association, he acts as judge and executioner, testing the strength of recruits, crushing disobedience, and deciding which monsters are fit to fight. His body also produces the cells used to create monster cells, the substance that allows humans to transform into monsters and expand the association's ranks. While he is the public face and enforcer of the organization, the actual strategy and long-term planning are directed by Psykos, making the two a partnership of brute force and cunning.
In the story, Orochi serves as the supreme ruler of the Monster Association during its war against the heroes. He confronts Garou during the hero hunter's rampage and defeats him while holding back, showing that he possesses not only overwhelming power but also genuine martial talent. His most significant encounter comes when Saitama wanders into the association's underground stronghold. Sensing Saitama's abnormal strength before the fight begins, Orochi brings him to the ancient altar and reveals his true face, a mass of writhing tentacles with glowing eyes. He unleashes his ultimate technique, the Gaia Cannon, which draws on the energy of the Earth's core, but Saitama easily cancels the attack and kills him with a single ordinary punch, leaving Orochi unable to comprehend his own defeat.
Even after that destruction, a small fragment of his body, his heart, survives. Sensing Psykos's energy during her battle with Tatsumaki, he forcibly fuses with her, creating a combined being that shares their consciousness and gains tremendous power. In this form, he threatens the S-class heroes and pushes Tatsumaki to her limits. The fused creature is eventually worn down by the combined attacks of heroes such as Genos, Bang, Bomb, Atomic Samurai, and Superalloy Darkshine, and Tatsumaki delivers the final blow, destroying Orochi completely.
