OVA
Description
Langa Hasegawa is a seventeen-year-old half-Japanese exchange student who has recently moved from Canada to Okinawa with his mother, Nanako Hasegawa, following his father’s death. He has been snowboarding since the age of two, which gives him an unusual foundation when he is introduced to skateboarding. Langa has pale blue hair, blue-green eyes, and a fair complexion, and his appearance is often described as ethereal or fairy-like. His personality is reserved and often appears dazed or absent-minded, but he can also be stubborn when he sets his mind to something. He tends to be introspective and somewhat socially awkward at first, gradually opening up as he forms deeper connections. His motivations are driven by a desire to carve his own identity after relocating and to rediscover the joy he once felt through sports after the loss of his father. He is something of a perfectionist, striving to master his craft, and he often uses snowboarding terminology when talking about skateboarding.
In the story, Langa serves as a central figure in the underground skateboarding race known as S, where he races under the alias Snow. His role begins when his classmate Reki Kyan takes him to an S race, and Langa unexpectedly wins his first race by adapting his snowboarding techniques to a skateboard. From then on, he becomes a prominent competitor, quickly gaining a reputation for his unique style and fearless approach. His relationships are key to his development: his friendship with Reki is foundational, with Reki acting as his mentor and partner, teaching him the basics and designing custom boards to suit his snowboarding instincts. Langa also shares a complex rivalry with the skater known as Adam, who becomes obsessed with him, and he forms close bonds with other skaters such as Miya Chinen, Joe, and Cherry Blossom. His mother supports his passion and provides emotional grounding.
Over the course of the series, Langa evolves from a grieving, directionless newcomer into a confident and skilled skater. He learns to confront his insecurities, especially when faced with more experienced opponents or emotional turmoil, and he comes to understand that the true value of skating lies not just in winning but in the joy of sharing the experience with friends. His notable abilities include an exceptional talent for translating snowboarding skills into skateboarding, allowing him to perform high-speed maneuvers, jumps, and tricks that others cannot. He is naturally fearless, which lets him attempt dangerous moves with little hesitation, and he learns rapidly by watching and imitating others. In the Extra Part OVA, which consists of four slice-of-life short stories, Langa continues to explore the emotional depth of his friendship with Reki while further honing his technical skills on the asphalt, reinforcing the bonds that have shaped his journey.
