Description
Chang Blarode is a character who appears as a C-Rank Regular within the Tower, having previously been ranked among the top five E-Rank Regulars. He holds the position of Fisherman. His heritage is unique, as he is of mixed blood, being half-human and half-Canine, a fact that is revealed later in the story. Having been orphaned at a young age, he was raised among the Canine people, which shaped his early life and loyalties. This background eventually leads him to work as a spy for the faction of Baylord Paul, a group of Canines who were exiled from the Cage after a civil war. He is tasked with gathering information from within the Cage to aid Paul's group.

In terms of appearance, Chang is a relatively tall young man with olive skin and black hair. His most distinctive feature is that he is missing one of his eyes, an injury that is implied to be the work of Khun Aguero Agnis. His typical attire consists of khaki pants, a brown blazer over a red shirt, and a scarf. His personality is characterized by a strong confidence in his own abilities, which borders on arrogance, as he does not hesitate to challenge notoriously powerful individuals like the Slayer Candidate, Viole. He is also cunning and perceptive, often trying to provoke opponents into making rash decisions or noticing subtle details that others overlook, such as the remarkably fast recovery of Ja Wangnan from a fatal wound.

Chang's primary motivation appears to be survival and securing his own freedom and safety. His actions, including spying on the Cage, are done in exchange for his freedom from Baylord Paul's group. He does not seem driven by a grand cause or loyalty to a single team, instead maneuvering through the Tower's dangers with a pragmatic and self-interested approach.

Within the Return of the Prince arc, Chang makes his debut alongside his close partner, Quaetro Blitz, as an opponent for Team Tangsooyook during the test on the 28th Floor. He demonstrates his cunning by snatching the victory key from Wangnan's hand just as the team was about to secure their win. He then leaves the fight against Viole to Quaetro, and after his partner is defeated, he chooses to withdraw rather than face the entire opposing team, though he attempts to goad Viole into a one-on-one duel. Following this test, he and Quaetro have an antagonistic but increasingly cooperative relationship with Team Tangsooyook, eventually sharing living quarters with them on the Archimedes during the Workshop Battle. During this time, he provides advice to other Regulars, warning them to avoid dangerous opponents like Varagarv.

Chang's key relationship is with Quaetro Blitz, with whom he is almost always seen. They function as a pair, supporting each other in battles and navigating the Tower together. He also shares a tense history with Khun Aguero Agnis, who is responsible for the loss of his eye, and their interactions are laced with this past animosity. For a period, he and Quaetro align themselves with Team Tangsooyook, assisting them on the Hell Express. Notably, he joins a desperate, albeit futile, attack on the powerful Ranker Ha Jinsung to help the team escape, demonstrating a willingness to engage in risky fights when necessary.

Over the course of his journey, Chang's role shifts from a direct antagonist to a temporary ally. He shows development in his perceptiveness, becoming one of the few Regulars to question Wangnan's mysterious resilience. He survives the Workshop Battle and the initial challenges of the Hell Train, including being trapped in a cage with his companions. However, his development is cut short when, after completing his spying mission for Baylord Paul, he is killed by one of Paul's servants, Grande, who eliminates him to prevent him from revealing their plans. This abrupt end serves to illustrate the vast and often anticlimactic power gap between Regulars and Rankers.

As for his notable abilities, Chang was considered one of the strongest E-Rank Regulars, a testament to his formidable combat skills. He wields a needle in battle with enough proficiency to be acknowledged by the powerful Ranker Ha Jinsung, who notes that he is not bad for a Regular. The powerful Princess Yuri Zahard also observes that he is hiding his true abilities, though his motives for doing so remain unknown. While his full capabilities are never fully explored, his reputation and these observations from high-ranking individuals indicate he possesses significant, largely untapped, power.
